About

Creating unique fiber, yarn, designs and spindles for the Fiber artist

Welcome to Turquoise Owl Fibers!

In 2009 I was introduced to the drop spindle by another fiber artist. That opened up a whole new world of possibilities, from a drop spindle, to an impromptu dyeing session, to a keen interest in natural fibers, and within a year I was seriously considering something I had never even dreamed of before, opening my own business.

I purchased a couple pounds of roving, started dyeing and did several fiber festivals. Things slowed down for awhile as other circumstances occurred. But I still kept working towards my dream of having my own business. I continued praying, planning, studying, and developing my techniques and own personal style in dyeing and designing. My business name changed, and in the spring of 2012 doors started opening and I was finally able to see my dream realized.

Although buying local if possible is important to me, I have had to change suppliers for the main bulk of my wool. But much of my add-ins and locks, and also my dyes, come from other small farms and businesses here in the States.

Currently the main focus of my shop fiber, specifically punis and roving. Much of my fiber is dyed by me with non-toxic professional acid dyes. I have been developing some new techniques and I am excited about what the future holds.
The punis I offer have been carefully blended, hand carded, and then rolled. I carry a range of styles from smooth spinning punis, to art punis that are full of fun colors and texture.
Most recently I have started carrying WhoPunis, special puni collections that I have made based off of the television sereis, Doctor Who.

----------------------------------
What's new in the shop?
*Besides the WhoPunis Collections, I add other puni blends here and there as I make them up. Most are OOAK but I have started doing repeatable puni colorways as well.
*August of 2013 I added Handspun, handknit wrist cuffs that were spun, designed, and knit by me. I hope to keep some of these in stock as we swing towards the cool months and upcoming holidays.
*Handspun yarn is also a new feature. Stay posted for more colors and different weights!
*Spring of 2013 I added Heirloom drop spindles to the shop. They are hand crafted in my family and are truly works of art and will bring many years of spinning enjoyment.

Enjoy your visit!

Additional policies and FAQs
I dye all my fiber in small batches and due to the nature of hand painting and kettle dyeing there can be variances within the same batch.
If ordering large amounts of the same color please keep this in mind and spin accordingly. i.e., some from one roving, then some from the other. This will ensure a more uniform yarn.

I do take custom orders into consideration. Please convo me with specif details as to what you want. After creating your item I will send you pictures of the finished product before making a reserved listing specifically for you.

We do not offer wholesale fiber orders at this time.
