Kalamazoo Artist
Bridget Fox - Artist Bio 2022
This Kalamazoo native is a painter, photographer, writer and maker. As a strong advocate of the arts in Kalamazoo, she also believes in giving back to her community. Up until the pandemic, Bridget regularly volunteered at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) as a Docent, guiding gallery tours for groups of all ages. She is the recent past (2021-22) Docent Council President. For the last 3 summers, Bridget worked on her own “Kindness Rock” project and distributed hundreds of rocks she hand painted throughout Kalamazoo.
She has a Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and participated in her first art class at the KIA in the mid 70’s. Known for her signature finger and hand paintings, she additionally finds enjoyment using her beloved college palette knife and a few select artist brushes. From mini to large scale paintings, it is therapeutic for her to move the paint back and forth across the canvas.
Over the last 5 years, Bridget became recognized throughout greater South West Michigan as a monthly contributor with the “Good News” Paper. Writing the art section, she teaches the reader audience that art is for everyone, inspiration is everywhere, and that anyone can become an artist.
She has taught numerous art workshops to both adults and children and is also a full time Art Instructor at MRC artWorks, located on the downtown Kalamazoo Mall. Bridget is the 2022 recipient of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo Community Arts Award winner for the Gayle Hoogstraten Arts in Education Leader on behalf of her service to MRC artWorks. This beloved artist studio and retail gallery provides adults, living with disabilities, a safe and positive environment in which to create and sell their art, promoting personal growth and self-confidence.
Bridget’s work has been showcased at several local venues including Art Hops. In 2019 and 2020, she had paintings chosen for inclusion in the West Michigan Area Show. Hundreds of commissions and thousands of her works of art have been distributed locally and nationally throughout her career.
“Art is an extension of who we are. It is a self-study guide in learning about ourselves; what we need, what we like and what makes us happy.”-B.Fox
