A Brief History of Thangs
En 1982, comencé a dibujar. Fui bastante terrible en eso, pero nunca me detuve ni disminuí la velocidad. De hecho, durante los primeros 5 años, prácticamente solo dibujé explosiones. En 1998 fui a la escuela de arte y pasé 4 años mejorando mucho en eso. Continué haciendo arte raro por mi cuenta durante aproximadamente una década en diferentes partes del país mientras trabajaba en una variedad de trabajos diurnos que van desde leñadores suburbanos hasta asistentes legales.
En 2015, decidí hacer una verdadera carrera para ser un artista a tiempo completo y se me ocurrió la idea de Two Thangs. La gente me da dos piezas del mundo exterior y las mezclo en pinturas originales. Básicamente, reduce sus intereses en dos piezas de información y siempre que no sean "MI perro" o "MI madre", podemos trabajar con ellos y hacer una pintura juntos. La gente ha elegido películas, músicos, libros, vocaciones, lugares icónicos, filosofías y casi cualquier cosa bajo el sol y hemos hecho algunas cosas raras con eso.
Al revender las imágenes como impresiones, alfileres, libros para colorear y un montón de otras cosas, mantengo los costos de las pinturas originales bastante bajos y asequibles. Tengo más de 150 pinturas hechas con todo tipo de personas de todo tipo de lugares y espero mantenerlo rodando hasta que me quede sin thangs.
In 1982, I started drawing. I was pretty terrible at it but I never stopped or slowed down. In fact, for the first 5 years, I pretty much just drew explosions. In 1998 I went to art school and spent 4 years getting a lot better at it. I continued making weirdo art on my own for about a decade in different parts of the country while working an assortment of day jobs ranging from suburban lumberjack to paralegal.
In 2015, I decided to make a real run at being a full time artist and I came up with the idea of Two Thangs. People give me two pieces of the outside world and I mash them up into original paintings. Basically, you whittle your interests down into two pieces of information and as long as their not "MY dog" or "MY mother" we can work with them and make a painting together. People have chosen movies, musicians, books, vocations, iconic places, philosophies and pretty much anything under the sun and we've made some weird stuff with it.
By re-selling the images as prints, pins, coloring books and a ton of other stuff, I keep the costs of the original paintings pretty low and affordable. I'm up over 150 paintings made with all kinds of people from all kinds of places and I hope to keep it rolling till I run out of thangs.
