There is No Military Solution

I began selling Afghan jewelry in 1982. A large number of civilians had fled the Soviet invasion of 1979. The number of displaced Afghanis reached millions in the decades that followed from the end of the Soviet war in 1989 through the civil war and Taliban rule of the 1990s. During the latest U.S.-Afghan war even more civilians were displaced, externally and internally, adding to the huge numbers of refugees already dislodged from over 30 years of constant war. Afghanistan represented the world's largest refugee population during the 1980s and early 1990s according to the U.N. High Commission on Refugees. Many Afghanis who had left their country sought work in Pakistan, Iran, India, Indonesia, and the U.S. Many have been repatriated. The U.S.-Afghan war has spilled over into Pakistan since 2010 making the geopolitical situation even more unstable. I believe that it is better to sell jewelry and textiles than guns and poppies. Read the story about Marjan the Lion, a true Afghan hero. His name means "precious stone" in the Afghan Farsi language. Remember that the concept of true jihad starts within your own heart - it is every man's struggle between good and evil. Any other type of jihad is not cool.
