Do What You LOVE! Love What You Do!
I learned to sew in a Home Economics class back in the 1970s but it was hardly love at first sight. The corduroy A-line skirt I made was super ugly and had crooked seams. LOL I didn’t sew again until my senior year of high school because I was determined to have the best prom dress ever. Well, let’s just say that was another epic fail and my beloved late grandmother wound up buying my prom dress. Never one to give up, when my children were born I decided I was going to conquer sewing once and for all. And I did! I’ve been sewing for about thirty years now. My favorite fabric to sew with is 100% cotton and other cotton wovens.
I love vintage sewing machines and own.....well, let me not say how many I own here because then hubby will find out! LOL I will say that my all-time favorite machine is a 1942 Singer 15-91 in the original cabinet. It's called "Farmer's Wife Model." I'm not sure why it's called that but it's a workhorse for sure and easily sews through six to eight layers of denim, leather, canvas and other heavy fabrics like butter.
I learned to crochet when I was eight years old. As is usually the case with many things in life I put down my crochet hook for a few years while raising my family. But as the children got older and more independent I started crocheting again. I’m sort of a non-traditional sort of crocheter and dislike following patterns. I usually look at a picture of an item I like and then do my own thing until I have something similar. I’ve often been told that I crochet wrong or backwards because I loop my yarn from front to back instead of from back to front. But that’s the most natural movement for me and I move along much faster that way.
As you can see from the photos I LOVE taking pictures of my six grandchildren almost as much as I love making things for them.
I also have two other shops on Etsy, UnexpectedTreasure2.etsy.com where I sell children’s clothing and accessories and TheSweetRetreat2.etsy.com which is currently empty because I can’t find time to bake. LOL
Thanks for taking the time to read my About Page and getting to know the artist behind the product.
