Creating Unique, Artful, Lovingly Handmade Items - one at a time.
Over the last 30 years, I have dabbled into every kind of needlework you can think of, embroidered many a hoop, manipulated fabric in all sorts of ways, beaded with the best of them. Along with these endeavors came a vast collection craft books, fabrics, yarns, notions, beads, buttons, trims, satin ribbons, doohickies, and whatchamacallits – all of which I try to incorporate into my pieces to some degree or another (my husband loves that part as opposed to buying more stuff!).
I am now in a position to use my time to create …. Create for the love of creating, the peace it gives me, the joy of taking some fabric or a ball of yarn and make something out of it. I spend hours in my studio (which – to be honest – is the sunroom at the back of our house), working away on something or other while listening to a good audio book simultaneously.
I love the entire creation process for sewn items - from choosing what I will make, picking fabrics, developing the templates, cutting, piecing, sewing ... ending with a beautiful, unique item made with contentment and happiness.
Somehow I ended up with 4 sewing machines; a treadle Singer built in 1877, an early electric Singer built in 1946, a modern quilting/limited embroidering Janome, and a Serger. I find myself using all of them while working on my projects, although I gravitate towards the two old machines for nostalgic reasons. Its harder to run a treadle machine than you would think!
Knitting & crocheting finds me sitting in my easy chair by a sunny window, listening to a good book; embroidery has me sitting near a table with my embroidery stand in front of me, picking colors of thread laid out on the table in neat columns of color families. There is a good chance a cup of coffee is nearby. :)
