About

We market reclaimed materials for others' use and create some cool stuff ourselves!

I was raised on a farm with a Dad who grew up during the depression. He was a big saver and repurposer. My brother and I often helped take apart unwanted farm buildings, took out the nails, and stacked the wood and other materials for later use.
A few years ago, when a tree fell on a corner of the granary on the farm where I grew up, the current owner decided not to repair the building. I offered to take it down in exchange for the lumber. We repurposed much of that material in a Vacation Rental apartment we built above our garage and have received rave reviews on our use of the old wood for flooring, tabletops, wainscot, trim, ceilings, etc. Visit http://www.wisconsincountryplaces.com for some pics of the results.
Someone offered us another granary, so we took that down too, selling some of the material to a wholesale buyer to be used for furniture building, flooring, etc.
In early 2013, Lu and I decided to form the business, Used Anew LLC, to offer the service of deconstructing unwanted buildings, selling the reclaimed materials to homeowners, builders and designers.
We decided to work with a Wisconsin program that helps folks with disabilities find meaningful work, so many of our staff have come to us from that awesome program.
Along the way we hired Brian (our ThingMaker) to process some of the unique items (plumbing and light fixtures, barn doors, etc.) and to produce craft items and small furniture pieces from some of the materials we reclaim. With his creativity and talent and our materials, we're having a blast creating cool stuff for you to enjoy!

Returns and exchanges
Refunds and returns generally reflect some level of disappointment for our buyers, so we want to do whatever we can to minimize the potential for a return, by describing the items carefully, answering questions completely and honestly - and packing well to minimize the potential for shipping damage.
That said, there are still occasions when a return may be necessary. If you are unhappy with a purchase you've made from us, let's discuss options, such as exchange, repair (if damaged), and returns. Ultimately, if a disappointment can't be resolved any other way, and you return the item in the same condition it was received, we'll issue a full credit of the item's purchase price immediately after we receive the item and verify its condition.
If items are damaged during shipping, please contact us to discuss the damage and whether or not an insurance claim will be in order. Until such situations are resolved, please keep any shipping materials with the item in the event proof of mishandling by the carrier may be required to resolve a claim.
Payment
Once you've decided to purchase from us, we'd like to get your order on its way to you as soon as possible, so timely payments (same day as purchase) are much appreciated. If you have questions about an item, including questions regarding shipping alternatives, please don't hesitate to ask. We want to be sure you know precisely what you're ordering before you order it, so we know you'll be happy with it when it arrives!
Current regulations require us to collect 5.5% sales tax only for orders within our home state of Wisconsin. For International orders, your country may charge you additional taxes or fees as your item passes through your country's customs.
Shipping
We have access to a number of shipping options, such as USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, SpeeDee, and YRC freight. It's difficult to put a one-size-fits-all shipping price on some of our items because it may depend on where it's going, which shipping service works best for your location, etc. Our best advice is to ask us about shipping options (especially on large or bulky items) before you order, so we can get you an accurate quote before you make your decision.
We're happy to ship Internationally, as well. Please keep in mind that your country may charge customs fees or other import taxes on your purchase. Since you pay these additional fees (if applicable) when your order passes through your country's customs, we encourage you to learn in advance whether they will apply to your purchase.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you see something in our store that's similar to what you'd like... or maybe you'd like to order 10 of them and we only show a quantity of 5... we encourage you to contact us to discuss custom or quantity orders.
