I was amazed as I opened up my new package of paints. Every step of the packaging and production is so thoughtful and beautiful. Wrapped in brown paper so skillfully - I wrapped it back up the first time just to see how it was done. Then the paints are in tiny wooden discs "mindfully" harvested by her father in British Columbia. The paints use cruelty-free ingredients. The package also included a gift of a brush and a bit of another colour to try out. I was wowed. I am looking forward to using the paint, but as I said to my husband, I'm not sure I can improve on the beauty of these little wooden discs of colour. He suggested I just put them on the fridge (there is a magnet on the back of each). This could be a critique of my "art" I suppose - but I choose to believe it's just because these paints are so beautifully presented.

These are sweet! The paint is every bit as gorgeous to paint with as her big palette except in plein-air size! I love the cyanotype. It is nothing I have tried before, but quite beautiful.

Welcome to VBWstudio!

Hi there, my name is Vivian and I am an artist based in Nova Scotia, Canada and the owner of VBWstudio.

I have been practicing oriental landscape painting since I was 10 years old in Korea. I love the simplicity and sense of freedom that comes from the intentional, careful use of emptiness and minimalist content. My love for watercolor painting grew quite naturally from oriental painting.

As a child, I enjoyed preparing Sumi ink from an inkstick as much as painting with it, so making my own watercolour paint has been quite a natural thing to do. I am so happy my passion for making handmade paints is appreciated by other artists.

I also love making illustrations for children and from this love my "Animal Friends" series of printables was born. The characters in this series have lived with me for a long time and I adore every one of them. I really hope to write my own children's book one day.

My other passion is woodworking and hence my handmade paints are stored on wood discs or plates. I also frame all my paintings myself. I love landscape and macro photography and living in Nova Scotia provides plenty of opportunities to take beautiful and often melancholy pictures that influence my paintings and handmade paint palettes greatly.

Do gold, rose gold and silver metallic color needs to be printed with a special printer and ink?

No. All gold, rose-gold and silver metallic prints are scanned images that can be printed on your home printer or at your favorite print shop. As with all prints, the quality will of course vary with such factors as the paper, ink, and printer used.

Can VBWstudio print for me?

Not at this time, but we are planning on expanding our service in the future. Stay tuned!
