Beautiful, useful objects. Inspired by the journey, made for generations.

Vacilando Studios is a design and production studio dedicated to making beautiful, useful objects while modernizing the tradition of American craftsmanship.

Born on the road in a mobile Airstream studio and founded by Laura Preston in 2015, Vacilando creates quilted textiles, home goods, and garments with the hopes that they’ll become part of your family, part of the fabric of your home and will someday be passed down to future generations. We’re dedicated to making ethically with quality materials and working with skilled craftspeople in their home studios across the United States.

Headquartered in the Texas Hill Country with location-independent quilters and seamstresses from coastal Florida all the way up to rural Maine, we’re modernizing the cottage industry and making it possible for women to work from home and make a living doing something they love.

Laura’s original designs are largely inspired by her years of traveling. Her bold, geometric designs are distillations of landscapes, architecture, and patterns found in nature that are transformed into the modern, minimalist quilts that Vacilando is known for.

Those designs are used in Vacilando’s made-to-order quilts that range from crib size to king size, best-selling wall quilts, quilted pillows, and small-batch modern quilt coats that sell out within minutes.

Vacilando’s work has been sold through global retailers including West Elm and Madewell, is on display in residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces around the world. Our work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Luxe Magazine, Oprah Magazine, Dwell, Apartment Therapy, and American Craft Magazine and Laura has been named an "extraordinary woman in design and architecture you need to know" by Architectural Digest and one of Country Living's 100 most creative people.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

Our quilts, pillows and quilt coats can be machine washed on delicate in cold water. Tumble dry low or lay flat to dry and iron to smooth any wrinkles or creases. Quilts will crinkle slightly after being washed and fabric will soften with age and use.

Our wall quilts are spot clean only and we recommend ironing to smooth any creases before hanging.

Wholesale availability

I have a small selection of quilts available for wholesale. Please email laura@vacilandostudios.com for more information.
