This doll is amazing! I am so pleased with the creativity and workmanship that went into this doll. She will be displayed prominently and proudly in my kitchen! She was also shipped so quickly!
I THINK I WAS BORN A DOLLMAKER
My story began in IRELAND. As a tiny tot, when not searching for 'little people' in mother's garden (rose hips were heads, thorns eyes, seed pods were arms) I was raiding her rag box to find bits and pieces to decorate my dolls or myself.
Life took me from IRELAND to NEW YORK, where I met and married Frank, to BERMUDA and now, happily, to VERMONT, near daughter Carmel. I regard all of these places as home and am always happy when I am in any one of them.
On the way I stopped to craft from whatever I got my grubby hands on. No stick, leaf, rag or scrap jewelry was safe from my surreal imagination.
There is no public transportation in Manchester, Vermont and since I no longer drive I found I was unable to sell my dolls locally. Etsy was the answer.
I was delighted when one of my corn husk angels was featured on the back cover of the 2012 Fall issue of ANGELS ON EARTH magazine.and this year I have had a picture of my doll 'Sweet Sixteen' published in the Spring 2015 edition of 'Art Dolls Quarterly. I have also been contacted by TV programs to see if they could use my dolls but sadly so far the poor things have ended up on the cutting room floor!

Corn Husk dolls were first made by Native Americans. As I have always taken an interest in the history and tradition of where ever I happen to live I was inspired to try my hand at this ancient art form. I work with the husks damp, tying. twisting and sometimes sewing them together while taking direction from their natural inclination. No glue is used. The dolls are then allowed to dry as they wish and develop their own personalities. To give the doll life and movement I look for husks which are imperfect (this one is discolored, that one has a ragged edge, the other will not lie flat and so on). The corn husk dolls which I make have no faces as it is believed that beauty comes from within.
Dolls which I make from mixed media are from scraps and thrift shop finds.
All my dolls are my own design, hand made by me and are copyright.
