Making Mosaics

I started creating mosaics in 2005 at my art studio in Middletown, Connecticut, a place I lived for most of my life. I experimented with 2-D and 3-D mosaics there, and worked my way into the style of color and design that I use in my work now. After moving to Vermont in 2014, I started creating new types of mosaic pieces, using round backer boards instead of squares and rectangles. I found working with a round background fun and exciting, creating pieces that felt right in a circle background. After doing this for awhile, I decided to go small and make my attempt at creating mosaic pendants. I enjoyed working with tiny pieces of glass and felt happy that I found a way to recycle those tiny pieces of glass left over from my larger pieces. I started selling them in 2016 and found them to be the best sellers at my craft fairs.

All of my mosaic work is made from hand-cut stained glass and ceramic tile, cemented on a wooden backer board and grouted for stability. I enjoy using pieces of old, broken jewelry, bead chain, silver doodads, glass beads, mirror tile, wire and other types of found objects in my mosaics. It gives them a distinct personality and an added sparkle which catches your eye as you pass by one of my pieces that are hung on the wall.
I love making art and have used it as an inspiration to myself and others. In my creative life, I hope to bring joy and beauty to the lives of others who choose to bring my work into their homes.
