I grew up in New York and my father had a close friend who was a Mohawk. The Iroquois are an important part of the history and culture of New York so I am thrilled to have these beautiful stones in my home.

I visited the Pamunkey Reservation and museum and these stones truly reflect their designs. These stones perfectly complement my Pamunkey pottery.
" I Can See Baskets "
I'm sure that all of you are familiar with the famous movie line, "I can see dead people." That would indeed be creepy but my truth is, that I can see baskets. The first time this ever happened, the result was the one you see in the portrait. I had found an interesting piece of driftwood and planned to wrap it around two small baskets, joined at the base. One was shorter and bowl shaped, and the second was to be taller and thinner, and shaped like a goblet. The "bowl" was finished and attached to the driftwood. Halfway through the "goblet," it seemed to say, "turn me sideways." I thought that this might be interesting so I followed that impulse. The resulting piece was both astonishing and gratifying to see. Since then, I have never hesitated to follow these intuitive hits. I am seldom disappointed in the results.
Sometimes the finished form is more traditional, as in the second basket pictured. I was walking in the woods with my husband, and happened to pick up two pieces of bark with lichen on them. As soon as I looked at them, I "saw" the finished letter basket down to its color and the position of the bark.
I find that if I continue to follow these visual images, they continue to pop into my head. If I ignore them, they stop coming to me. I'm far too fascinated by them to allow that to happen, and I hope that you will enjoy my visions too.
Around the web
I'm a mixed media artist. I began as a basketmaker years ago. I began to want more variety in my work, and I discovered mixed media art. My original business name was Dreamweaver. I used to "see" a finished piece in my mind's eye and then would try to weave it. After completion of that, another would pop into my mind. I have since discovered that dream images occur in almost any media, so I've kept dreaming. Come along with me!
I will be showing my ACEO's and altered pieces for sale, but I have dicovered that most folks prefer to purchase art supplies to fuel their own creative process. I'll be offering my own hand-distressed papers and fabric papers, as well as vintage keys, watch parts and other tantalizing cool old stuff. This will change as I encounter things, so check back often. I hope that you have as much fun looking as I did finding!
