Vertical Elements - Your Wall Decor Shop
Welcome to Vertical Elements, where each piece is personally hand crafted by me with the help of my wonderful wife! To make a long story short, I started my woodworking business out of my garage in 2017 in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and it started taking over the garage, basement and living room. So...I happened to find somebody renting out space in an old factory in Joliet, IL not too far from my house. The guy that owns the building makes custom wood moulding. Him and I worked together to make custom knives for his molder/shaper to cut the custom profile which is what most of my frames are made from. The wood comes in as rough sawn lumber (most of it is furniture grade poplar) directly from various mills in the US. The lumber is then cut to width and then run through the moulder machine. I then use a dual miter saw to cut the frame pieces to length and join the mitered corners with an underpinner. I stain and paint the frames by hand, attach the chalkboard or dry erase board with a special staple gun and attach the wall hangers on the back. Its quite a process and I enjoy every minute of it.
The process is still the same, but in 2020, I moved out of the shop in Joliet and into my garage which is still located in southwest suburb of Chicago but just over the border in Indiana.
