Vetera

Hay algo en la forma en que las cocinas, y los recuerdos hechos en ellas, se quedan con nosotros. Un sonido, un aroma o la vista de los cuencos de mezcla de la abuela pueden enviarnos de vuelta con la claridad más nítida. Las cocinas pueden llevarnos a casa y hacernos volver a casa, por lo que sentimos que deben inspirar felicidad no solo en el momento en que las usamos, sino porque las recordamos.

Ambos hemos tenido un interés de por vida en la historia. Cuando era niña, Stefanie quería ser Indiana Jones, participó en excavaciones arqueológicas en la escuela secundaria y trabajó en un Museo de la Guerra Civil. Bruce estaba explorando los viejos edificios abandonados y cavando botellas alrededor de la pequeña ciudad del medio oeste donde creció. Nuestro interés colectivo en la historia y los artefactos relacionados con el pasado comenzó a expresarse en nuestro hogar.

Nos encanta cocinar y a menudo incluimos a nuestros hijos en el trabajo de preparación. En una de esas ocasiones hicimos explotar una fuente de horno [moderna], sacando la puerta del horno y enviando fragmentos de vidrio volando. Esa experiencia nos llevó al camino del descubrimiento sobre el vidrio y la historia que algún día encontraría expresión en la pequeña tienda que llamamos Vetera. Queríamos encontrar artículos duraderos y confiables para la cocina. Y, por supuesto, miramos al pasado, encontramos piezas tan felices y coloridas de los años 30 a los 70 y comenzamos a recoger Fire-King, Pyrex y Hazel Atlas, llenando nuestros estantes de un mundo de coleccionables de cocina vintage que nunca supimos que existían.

Nuestro interés solo creció a partir de ahí, y luego vino la tienda, a medida que descubrimos nuevos artículos y fragmentos de información sobre ellos, tal vez estamos preservando parte de la colorida historia que representan estos artículos.
Disfrutamos yendo y encontrando nuevas piezas, y aunque puede que no sea tan emocionante como ser perseguido por una roca rodante gigante, tiene sus momentos, y nos encanta hacerlo.

Ese es el color de la felicidad, el escenario de los momentos que compartimos con aquellos que amamos y los recuerdos en ciernes. Estamos creando recuerdos con nuestra familia y amigos en technicolor y esperamos, de una manera pequeña, traerle algo que inspire alegría en su hogar también.

There is just something about the way kitchens, and the memories made in them, stay with us. A sound, a scent, or the sight of grandma's mixing bowls can send us back with the crispest clarity. Kitchens can take us home and make us home, so we feel they should inspire happiness not only in the moment we use them, but because we remember them.

We have both had a life-long interest in history. As a girl, Stefanie wanted to be Indiana Jones, she participated in archaeological digs in high school, and worked in a Civil War Museum. Bruce was exploring the old abandoned buildings and digging bottles around the small mid western town where he grew up. Our collective interest in history and artifacts connected to the past began to express itself in our home.

We love to cook and often include our kids in the prep work. On one such occasion we had a [modern] baking dish explode, taking out the oven door and sending shards of glass flying. That experience led us onto the path of discovery about glass and history that would one day find expression in the little shop we call Vetera. We wanted to find durable, reliable items for the kitchen. And of course we looked to the past, we found such happy, colorful pieces from the 30s to the 70s and started scooping up Fire-King, Pyrex, and Hazel Atlas, filling our shelves from a world of vintage kitchen collectibles we never knew existed.

Our interest only grew from there, and then came the shop, as we discover new items and bits of information about them, maybe we are preserving some of the colorful history these items represent.
We enjoy going and finding new pieces, and though it may not be as exciting as being chased by a giant rolling boulder, it has it's moments, and we love doing it.

That's the color of happiness, the setting for the moments we share with those we love and memories in the making. We're making memories with our family and friends in technicolor and we hope, in a small way, to bring you something that inspires joy in your home as well.
