VicAndBertieVintage's Shop Policies
Welcome to Vic & Bertie Vintage. I am a nineteenth and twentieth century fashion historian working in the field of curation and fashion. I amass a very large amount of vintage clothing, many iconic pieces, which I offer for sale once at time when I need to clear space in the storage facility. Pieces have been featured in exhibitions, films and fashion journals. All garments are correctly stored and have been moth-proofed etc on a regular basis (if required).
Payment can be by Paypal or by Direct Checkout using your credit or debit card. I also accept Etsy gift cards.
POSTAGE AND SHIPPING: Domestic UK deliveries are normally by Royal Mail 'Signed For' and 'Recorded Delivery' services. However, from time to time I may need to used another courier service and the customer will be notified if that is the case. Overseas shipping is by a fully tracked and insured service only. I do not send any items, unless that are of a value under £25, by untracked services for my safety and yours.
INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS AND IMPORT DUTY, TAXES, ETC. The buyer is liable for any taxes, import duty or other related charges when purchasing an item from abroad which is taxable. Vintage clothing is taxable and the rate of taxation is determined by the item and the rate set by each country's government. I will under no circumstances devalue and item on the Customs Declaration form (CN 22).
DELIVERY TIMES: Items are sent out within 5 working days. However you can specify on your order if you need an item to be despatched quicker and I will reply informing you if that is possible. However, if you need an item quickly I recommend you contact me before purchasing.
Refunds and Exchanges
RETURNS POLICY. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
PAYPAL BUYER PROTECTION POLICY - Please note that the 180 return policy on Paypal is not acceptable due to the the vintage content of my shop. Vintage items cannot be used and returned and it is too difficult to tell whether a used garment has been worn again if only once.
If cancelling your purchase, please contact me immediately as I ship quickly.
Cancellations are not accepted after purchasing. Certain exceptions apply. Please convo immediately.
I reserve the right to cancel any purchases made using a false address in order to secure my merchandise. Paypal and Etsy accounts should list current address. I will only ship to addresses which matches your Etsy and paypal account. I do not ship to
RETURNS ACCEPTED IT…….In the rare instance that you feel that you need to return the item please contact me as soon as the item is received so we can resolve the issue. I do accept returns if the item has been grossly misrepresented or there are issues with damage, repairs, alteration etc that have not been mentioned in the condition report. However, please note I strive to be as accurate and honest as possible as to the true condition of all garments and will always state repairs and alterations (shortening, hemming, dying, remodelling, repairs to fabric, replacement trim, etc). In these instances I will accept returns, but must receive the item back without undue delay and upon safe receipt I will issue a full refund.
RETURNS NOT ACCEPTED IF…… the item does not fit and accurate measurements were provided in the listing. I do not accept returns for reason of wrong colour, changed minds, financial difficulties, bye remorse, it has been worn or any other reason other than something which is my fault (see above RETURNS ACCEPTED).
RETURNS IN SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES….. I know distance buying vintage clothing poses risks to the buyer as it it not possible to try a garment on beforehand. However, if you are a regular and trusted customer please message me first to make a private arrangement regarding a possible return before purchasing.
FOOTWEAR AND HATS: I do not accept any returns on these items as they are notoriously impossible to give extremely accurate measurements in the crucial areas such as the height of the foot arch which is never the same on any two people. Footwear and hats are purchased at the buyer’s risk.
ADDITION NOTES ABOUT VINTAGE FOOTWEAR: footwear manufactured in the period up until the 1970s which are made from man-made materials have what is called an “inherent vice” i.e. a flaw which worsens over the passage of time. As the soles are glued rather than stitched, the glue used to adhere the soles to the uppers degenerates to a powder as they age meaning the soles will most likely come away from the uppers after one or a few wears. I recommend therefore that the buyer takes precautionary action by having the soles RE-GLUED prior to wearing. I do not accept returns on vintage footwear which has this inherent vice. THANK YOU.”
ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE MESSAGE ME.
Additional Policies and FAQs
CUSTOMS CHARGES, IMPORT DUTY AND TAXES - These are all chargeable fees imposed by your government (i.e. the country you are having goods sent to) which are beyond a seller’s control. The buyer may be liable for any or all or any of these charges when importing goods from abroad. These charges are nothing to to with the seller, they are not part of the transaction with the seller and cannot be estimated or calculated by the seller. Most country’s do provide a guide to importing goods and related taxes on official websites. Buyers are advised to check their tax liability before purchasing an item from abroad.
CONTROLLED GOODS - many countries have a list of controlled goods which generally in terms of clothing includes any animal product as part of whole of a garment - such as fur, animal skins, leather and ivory. It is the duty of the buyer to check the controlled goods list of their country BEFORE purchasing any garment which is wholly or part animal product. This may also extend to plant-based fibres. Again, most governments provide a list of controlled goods and substances. Some countries require certification before accepting animal products into the country. Buyers must make the seller aware if certification is required before shipping. This can be a lengthy process so bear this in mind if you have a time constraint.
