If you are new to my site, welcome to my online shop! I am so thrilled to have launched victoriab:design on Etsy! I have created a line of artisanal hand-dyed, hand-painted, or hand-printed silk scarves just for you. Art doesn't only have to be hung on a wall! You can wear it, too! So why not wrap yourself in an original work of wearable art?
I will add more scarves as I create them throughout the year. Check back regularly, and keep this shop in mind for holiday and special occasion gifts for yourself and others! I also do commissions, and even hand-dyed/printed a Chuppah canopy for a wedding! Please understand that each scarf is unique and requires a considerable amount of handiwork, right down to the hand-sewing of the labels. I cannot mass-produce them, therefore, my collections always remains small and exclusive.
These gorgeous, collectible scarves are lovingly created in Brooklyn, NY!
Visit victoriabcollectible (a division of victoriab:design) on Etsy for fine art and collectibles. I am currently building the shop, so bear with me as I add items:

5 out of 5 starsThis scarf was a hostess gift for an aunt I stayed with in Florida. She absolutely loves it and I loved my dealings with the artist who created it.

A Creative Seed Planted
I worked most of my career as a magazine art director and graphic designer, but secretly always wanted to make my living as a maker of fine art and fine crafts. My Etsy shops are a result of that desire. The inspiration for my beautiful silk scarves was based on the fact that many people love my artwork but have nowhere in their home to put it. I decided to create a line of scarves under my victoriab:design label to solve that problem. Now you have the opportunity to wear a piece of my art!
My silk scarves project has also evolved into surface design, which allows me to put my artwork on products! I will begin featuring products with my colorful illustrations and designs here soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime you can visit victoriabdesign.com to see more of my designs and shop links.
Here is a little about my background as a creative: As a book and mixed media artist, I have taken classes at Center for Book Arts in NY, the Lower East Side Print Shop, Women’s Studio Workshop, R&F Handmade Paints, Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts, Dieu Donné Papermill, Robert Blackburn Printmaking Studio, Pratt Institute, Columbus College of Art and Design, and Ohio University: Lancaster. I have explored a wide variety of artistic mediums such as bookbinding, papermaking, printmaking, letterpress, ceramics, collage, encaustic, painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, textile arts and surface design.
I am a cultural omnivore, regularly attending a wide variety of live musical, theatrical and dance performances. I have belonged to both a community chorus and a folk music group. I was a founding member of a dance collective, and I was recently a member of a food coop and a CSA. I am an avid hiker, journal writer and blogger. I have given back to the earth by volunteering as a trail worker in national parks across America. I have volunteered as an onboard educator and crew member on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. I learned medieval stone masonry in Provence, and I currently give back to my community by working in the nonprofit sector. Oh, and of course, I devour books. Lots and lots of them.
My work has been shown at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artist’s Coalition (BWAC) shows in Red Hook, and with the Park Slope Windsor Terrace Artists as part of the Artslope arts festival. I have also shown at Uzi NY Gallery, Pratt Manhattan Gallery, Dieu Donné’s Y2K Group Show, and at the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. My work is in private collections and in The Sketchbook Project’s archives.
Although I work in a variety of mediums, I have a special love for the book arts because they provide me with an endlessly flexible form which allows me to incorporate multiple art techniques and personal interests, including graphic design, and writing. You can purchase artwork and — eventually — vintage collectibles at my sister shop on Etsy: victoriabcollectible. Bear with me as I am currently building the site.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders
Contact me through the Etsy conversation center to discuss possible custom or personalized orders. (I even created a wedding Chuppah for an adventurous client!) If I can at all accommodate your request, I will! It will depend on what the project is. Please keep in mind that since these scarves are one-of-a-kind works of art, I could never exactly recreate one, although I could make one with a similar "look." Due to the artistic nature of the dyes and process that I use, I cannot match colors.
Sizing details for Silk Scarves
The dimensions given for the scarves are the dimensions of the silk before I have begun dyeing and painting it. Be aware that there is often slight shrinkage after the artistic process is complete and they have dried.
Care instructions for Silk Scarves
Hand-dyed, hand-painted silk scarves require the following care:
You must handle them gently at all times, and be careful how you store or hang them, as they can easily snag.
Wash gently in cold water. Use a drop of natural soap. Rinse well. Dry by placing the scarf between a clean absorbent towel, and gently patting dry. Hang to dry in the shade, avoiding direct sunlight. If you choose to iron, place a thin cotton sheet or fabric on top of the scarf. Use a medium to low iron setting.
This silk scarf is made of a natural fiber and as such, it always has variations and nubs in the texture. It is also hand-dyed and hand-painted, and as a work of art is not machine-made perfect. The human touch is what makes them of value!
Gift wrapping and packaging for Silk Scarves
All silk scarf orders will be shipped with a creative yet simple gift packaging.
All other items ship separately from a different location via a production partner and cannot be gift-wrapped.
(Wholesale orders, if accepted, will not be gift-packaged.)
Please be aware that all of my silk scarf packaging is deliberately modest, so that I can keep price and environmental impact down.
Wholesale availability
Wholesale orders considered on a case-by-case basis.
Please contact me via the Etsy conversation center to discuss.
Why a hand-painted scarf and not a manufactured one?
The reason I decided to create this line of artisanal scarves is because people often wanted to buy my original artworks, but had no place in their home to put them.
These hand-dyed, hand-painted silk scarves are wearable works of art. They are easy to store, fun to collect, and provide you with the opportunity to add an original work of art to your wardrobe every day.
They are one-of-a-kind (OOAK) and as such, are labor-intensive to produce. The result is that the scarf you are purchasing is the only one like it in the world. I hope wearing it gives you as much pleasure as it gave me to create it for you. With the proper care, it should provide you with many years of color, pattern, and joy!
