"No pinto con mis manos; pinto con mi corazon" or "I don't paint with my hands; I paint with my heart." Love Victoria de Almeida

My name is Victoria de Almeida. I am a Native New Mexican folk art painting living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I have drawn my whole life. Both my father and grandfather were artists so I was surrounded by their work growing up. My dad guided and nurtured my interest in art though he didn't encourage me to get an art degree though I wanted it very much. I took the practical route and earned a Special Education degree from New Mexico State University in 1997.

It didn't take long for me to figure out that teaching was not my thing. I stayed home to raise my only son Douglas and then I took mostly administrative assistant jobs for the next 20 years. After my husband and I moved to Santa Fe to be near family I started seriously started painting. Santa Fe is one of the largest art markets in the world. I figured if I could ever make it in art, Santa Fe would give me the opportunity. I started out hitting the street of the Santa Fe plaza showing my work to different gift shops and soon I was getting wholesale orders. In addition, I exhibited at various art shows in New Mexico. The art show life is hard work but it taught me a lot about how to talk to collectors, sell my work and how to run an art business. After 10 long years of art shows and painting over 150 pieces of work I was able to open my own studio in 2015 on the Santa Fe Plaza the Victoria de Almeida Studio / Gallery on 66 E. San Francisco Street.

My inspiration is always my Hispanic heritage. I was raised around a huge, beautiful Spanish extended family. Family to me was not just Mom, Dad and sister but aunts, uncles, and many, many cousins. My Grandparents Manuel Sousa Almeida (1914-1982) and Reynalda Chaves Anaya (1920-2000) lived in a little adobe casita in Santa Fe. Every holiday our huge family would gather in the little house and eat, laugh and love being together. Nothing was more important to my grandparents than their family coming together. We were taught the value of family sticking together and being proud of who you are and where you come from. My paintings reflect the love and respect I have for my Hispanic roots.

I love what I do. I can't imagine doing anything else with my life. In hindsight I am so grateful I did not go to art school. As a self-taught artist I never had anyone telling me that how I worked was wrong. I don't think there is any right or wrong in art. I do what feels good and right to me. I try to always paint from my heart and hopefully people with feel that from my work.

God Bless you!

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Absolutely I do commissions. Pricing for me is very simple. I charge $5 a square inch. So if you want a 11 x 14 painting that is 154 square inches. 154 inches x 5 = $770. This price can increase depending complexity of piece (say you want many many figures) . I need very good pictures if you are wanting particular figures. The more pics you give me the better. I also love hearing about why you are commissioning the piece. I love hearing about what is special about what I am painting. Feel free to email me with any questions. Bless you.

Combining Shipping

I will absolutely combine shipping if you buy more than one item. In fact with both the canvas prints and prints I can get many in one box. Email me if you want to buy more than one item. I can refund any shipping costs and combine the order.

Wholesale availability

I absolutely do wholesale orders. Please give me 3 weeks to order supplies for your large order and to ship out to you. I am a "one woman show" and hand press all of my art plaques personally. I am very excited to wholesale to businesses nationally.
