About

The Thrill of the Hunt: The Love of Creating

I have loved antiques and collecting vintage treasures for a long time. As the owner of an old farmhouse, over the years I have sought to furnish it with unique, rustic, "farmhouse-worthy" (meaning not TOO fancy) finds! For me, it is the hunt for that perfect piece that excites me and it is THAT hunt that ultimately led to the establishment of Vinchique Designs.

While treasure-hunting with me, my daughter was often drawn to the shiny brilliance of vintage rhinestone pins and brooches. She began collecting them at a young age and soon we began collecting them together. I began selling vintage jewelry to help fund our "habit". I would buy large lots of vintage jewelry in order to find a few nice pieces. As a result I was often left with many broken parts, necklaces, pins, bracelets or single earrings with no mates. I couldn't bring myself to just toss these still beautiful reminders of the past away so I decided to try my hand at creating one-of-a-kind repurposed pieces. Right from the beginning, I loved every minute of it! From the satisfaction of giving these antique and vintage beauties new life to dreaming up new and unique ways to use an old piece in an unexpected updated version, I never tire of it or run out of ideas and it is this love for creating that keeps me motivated and inspired.

Creating repurposed jewelry allows me to combine my love for antiques and treasure hunting with an innate desire to create something with my imagination and hands. The hunt (whether it be local or online) for that perfect piece is as much a part of the process for me as making the jewelry. I usually don't know what I'm looking for when I go treasure-hunting and am not sure exactly what I am going to make until I get the pieces home and they "speak" to me! Some of my favorites to look for are Art Deco era pot metal rhinestone pieces, enamel and thermoset pieces from the 50's, Victorian pieces, cameos, lockets and French antique pieces. I also like using vintage and antique religious pieces in my work. I think the history and meaning behind these pieces and the mystical qualities they possess and exude fascinate me. I strive to create jewelry that is unique, feminine, wearable and that has a history to it and since I love many different styles and eras of jewelry, I try not to box myself in to anyone particular style or design.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to display my creations on Etsy for the world to see and I am so appreciative every time someone buys one of my pieces. It is extremely satisfying, validating and motivating to know that there are women out in the world wearing a one-of-a-kind piece I've created. I am particularly thrilled when a bride wears one of my pieces on her special day! Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me and my process.
