About

Treasure Hunter and Object Saver

I studied as a Silversmith at Plymouth Art College in England over 20 years ago.
But since graduating I have had various different jobs related to the Arts and Crafts world
For a few years, I had my own bushiness making cast silver musical instrument parts.
I have also worked for "Les Monuments Historique" in France this is a government organisation that takes care of and restores all the old national buildings in France such as castles, religious buildings and historical sites, and there are a lot!. I worked in Brittany restoring the inside of some of the numerous churches and chapels. My job was to re-gilding the statues and retables with gold leaf and to restore the polychrome ( paint )
I also have worked in the cinema industry as a set painter and builder.

With Vintage Decor Français I have come back to my childhood love of old objects, I had my own museum as a child of 5 years old and was always interested in objects and their history. Saving objects for future generations to admire and treasure is my mission in life now.

I live in a rural region of France between Brittany and Normandy. My village is full of history as it used to be a large town in Roman times, 2000 years ago. There are Roman ruins dotted around the village which now has fewer inhabitants than during its heyday.

During the summer flea market season, I spend my weekends hunting for treasures at the local "Vide Grenier " which literally means empty attic.

I love to go "chiner" as the French say, this means hunting down the perfect objects at the "marché au puces" ( flea market ) and "vide greniers"( which literally means empty your attic.)

In rural parts of France this is a place where people sell the household contents of a deceased relative and/ or their own unwanted stuff, there is so often a story that goes with an object, I get into so many conversations with the sellers.

All object are vintage, so preowned, some have survived the test of time more than others. I think that even damaged objects have a beauty to them, for example, the enamelware to me has an extra appeal when it is chipped.

Some of the items I sell are not 100% perfect, but I do try to point out the defects in the description

Payment
I accept payment via pay pal or direct checkout.

I also accept bank transfers and cheques in Euros or Sterling.

I require payment within 7 days of purchase.

I operate a Layaway scheme, although I require a a 30% deposit and this is not refundable. Contact me to arrange payments
Shipping
I ship twice a week ( as I live a certain distant from the local post office.)

I use recycled cardboard packaging ( but in perfect condition) and new bubble wrap, for fragile items I line the box with polystyrene.

I ship items using "la Poste"s cheapest international postal rates, but this does not include tracking or insurance ( to keep the cost down as postage in France is reasonably expensive)

I only charge 1 $ over the French postal cost, this is to cover materials and time.

Tracking is an extra 4$ and insurance is an extra 4$, these options are available during checkout.

International postal delivery can take from 5 days to 3 weeks, at certain times of the year maybe longer ( ie Christmas period and French summer holidays)

I cannot be held responsible for items not arriving for a deadline.

I am not responsible for extra taxes or duty upheld in certain countries.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are not satisfied with an item, I accept returns and will refund the purchase minus the shipping costs. I must be contacted within 15 days of reception of the delivery.

I will refund via Paypal or direct checkout after I have received the item, postal costs are the buyer responsibly.

I can not be held responsible for damage incurred during shipping if you have not taken insurance, but the percentage of damaged items during shipping is very low ( to date I have only had 1 damaged delivery partly due to my packaging which I have totally reviewed since this incident)

If you do receive a damaged item and have not purchased insurance contact me and I will try to compensate you with a discount on your next purchase ( this is how confident I am about my packing)

I am not responsible for nondelivery of uninsured items.

I do not issue refunds for damage or losses during shipping unless the customer has taken insurance.
