I wanted to be my own boss.

I had always wanted to do my own thing. I started my Etsy shop in 2012 after seeing all the beautiful items available here. I made a couple pieces and when they sold I made more. Once I got busy I had to quit my day job. One of the best decisions I have ever made. I had been getting help from my son Casey in the summer and when he got out of school he decided to come help me full time.

Since then I have added my other son Chris and other helpers as needed. We do this from our shop next to our home. We try every day to put a personalized touch to every piece of wood we make into something for your home or business. We want our pieces to last a lifetime and be something to be proud of.

Welcome to our Etsy page. Vintage Steel and Wood is a full time family owned and operated business in Texas. We are God fearing hard working woodworkers and metalworkers. We hand make each piece of our items in our shop located right next to our home. We use reclaimed, used, recycled and new wood to create wonderful pieces you c an be proud of and expect to last forever.

We recycle as much material as possible and use only materials that we know and trust. We do not use pallets as some are treated with chemicals you do not want in your home. Our stains and clear coats have no harmful chemicals.

Our shipping materials are all cardboard and paper and biodegradable tape. We love our environment and live our lives to sustain it.

We make clothing racks, store fixtures, tables, desks, coffee tables, end tables, shelves and many other items. If you do not see what you are looking for please feel free to ask. All of our items are currently made to be shipping friendly. therefore we do not make anything longer than 59" or wider than 20" at this time.

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:

Returns and exchange details

All sales are considered final with exceptions. If we believe we can re sell the item we will most likely take it back. However we reserve the right to refuse a return for any reason. We want you to be happy with your purchase while retaining our rights under Etsy terms of service. Understand that you will need to contact us for instructions for returning an item. Returned items will be subject to a 25% re stock fee. We also reserve the right to refuse to accept a return on non standard or custom items if we do not believe the item will re sell. This means if you order something weird we may not want it back because we might not be able to re sell it basically.

If you plan to return an item you must first ask if we will take it back. If we agree to take an item back you will need to return it in the original or similar packaging. If it is damaged during shipment we will not be able to accept it (damage noticed at delivery)
On items where we accept a delivery and later find the item not packaged properly and damaged inside the packaging we will contact you with the details. In some cases we will accept the item with an amount taken off. (parts missing, parts damaged etc) If the damage is beyond repair we will not accept the return. This has only happened once and we were able to repair the damaged piece. So be sure to package carefully to avoid damage. Insure the package for full value.


On exchanges there will be a 15% exchange fee to cover handling of the items and the process. Remember return shipping is not part of an exchange. If you send an item back you must send it in the original packaging packaged as it was when originally shipped. If not it stands a chance of being damaged in shipping. You will also need to insure the shipment for full value.


Damaged items can be returned by contacting us for instructions specific to the item. If you have a damaged item we may choose to send a new item, part for an item etc on a case by case basis. If you have an order with a missing piece please let us know and we will send the piece immediately. See the shipping policy above for returning a damaged item. In cases where an item is damaged and can be repaired and/or re sold we may require that item be sent back before sending a new item. In the past we have shipped replacement items and not gotten the original item back. This has happened twice. Thus the reason for this policy. Sometimes for us the cost of making a new piece like a shelf or table top is less than shipping an item both ways. This is on a case by case basis.


We refund an item according to the policy above. If the item is a return we refund the item price only. Shipping is not part of a refund. Refunds are made through the Etsy orders page. We click refund and the amount and Etsy handles the funds transfer. We have no access to credit cards or accounts. Returned items are subject to 25% re stock fee (items already made) or a 10% fee on items not already made. We feel like these amounts are the minimum we must charge to handle the processes. We hope you understand.
All payments are handled by Etsy. Our shop has no access to credit cards or payment info. Our shop operates on Etsy direct checkout. Etsy accepts all major credit cards and Paypal.

We ship UPS ground for all packages. We have a daily UPS pickup at 5pm central time. Most of our shipping polices are reflective of UPS policies. Once we have an item ready to ship we will weigh it and make a shipping label for it. We post the tracking number to the Etsy order page on your specific order. That triggers an email from Etsy to you notifying you that the order has shipped and of the tracking number. Once you have the tracking number you can click on it in the Etsy orders page or click through to UPS for detailed information about the location of your package. UPS usually has a date that they expect to deliver the package. If you have any questions about shipping please ask us. If they are UPS specific questions you can call 1-800-742-5877 with your tracking number and they will be able to help you.

If you are in Alaska or Hawaii you will need to get a shipping quote before proceeding with purchase. Our items are large and heavy and shipping to AK and HI are higher than the lower 48 states. We reserve the right to cancel any order that does not meet our guidelines for shipping in the U.S.


Every item we ship has an Etsy estimated ship date. This date is on your copy of the order. Just click "you" then "purchases and reviews" then scroll down to the order. The scheduled to ship by date is at the top. Understand this is not a hard deadline or guaranteed ship date. Our items are made to order by hand and vary greatly from day to day. We generally ship before this date. We will also many times ship very early. We will do the best we can to ship on or before the Etsy estimated ship date. However Etsy does not take into account multi piece orders and multiple orders in a short time so the date can't be set in stone. We get lots of large orders from stores. We also get behind during holidays so please understand our Etsy ship date policy. Please feel free to message us anytime for updates on your order.


Please make sure your shipping address and email address are correct BEFORE ordering. We do have people on a regular basis who place an order with an old address. We change them on a regular basis. If you have the incorrect shipping address on Etsy, forget to change it or have changed it but it did not go through and the order has the wrong address it is up to you to provide the correct address to us ASAP and to do that through Etsy messages, not email. If you do this we will confirm that we have the new address. If we ship the item to the address you provided and it's wrong we can re route the item if it's in transit for the cost that UPS charges us. That cost is about $15. That will need to be paid before we re route the item. If the item is delivered to the wrong address for the reasons above it is your responsibility to get it to you as we will no longer be able to have UPS send it somewhere else. At that point UPS will only allow the person who has it to ship it. If the item is returned to us because of the wrong or an incorrect address or it is undeliverable for any reason, getting it back to you will be at your expense. If UPS tries to deliver the package three times and nobody accepts it they will send it back to us, and charge us for that shipment. If that's my fault I will cover that charge. If it's your fault you will be responsible for that charge.


We do not require a signature for UPS to leave the package. They will leave it at the address on the order. However some UPS areas will require a signature. I am not sure why they do this. They will make 3 attempts to deliver the package. So it's best to check the tracking number and be aware of the date they plan to deliver it. You can also call them and have them deliver it at a different date/time or even hold it at their location for pickup.


When an item is shipped we post the tracking number to the Etsy order page to clear the item from our open orders page. This alerts Etsy that the item has shipped and Etsy will email you the confirmation of shipping and the tracking number. This email will go to the email address Etsy has on file for you. But if you do not get it or do not check that email often you may miss it. In that case please message us here for the tracking number. Understand that we have to enter that number when we mark the order shipped. So if you did not get the email with the tracking number, you email address may be wrong or you have some other issue. Feel free to message us anytime for updates or tracking numbers or anything else.


We have a daily pickup Monday thru Friday at 5pm central time. This applies to regular business days as UPS does not pick up on weekends or federal holidays. ** Update**
We understand that UPS is now picking up and delivering on Saturdays. However we generally do not package anything on Saturdays so we will likely not be using this service at least for now.


When an item is received you need to inspect the package for damage. If there is damage please have the UPS driver note it immediately and if possible open the package while the driver is there and inspect the contents. If there is damage to the contents you must take plenty of picks of the damage to the item and/or the packaging. You also need to save the packaging as UPS will often times send someone to see the damage in person. UPS requires pics of damage to item and package to process a claim. In the event of a damaged item we will file the claim with the pics and correct documentation and UPS will act quickly. We will then determine whether we will ship a replacement item or an entire replacement piece and may or may not ship the old item back. It depends on the shipping cost and whether the item can be repaired or not. If we believe the item can be repaired we will do so. In that case you will need to package the item in the original packaging and we will send you a label to return it for repair or replacement.

** If we feel like the item needs to be sent back and can be repaired and or re sold we will require that item back before shipping a new piece. We will send you a shipping label vie email to send the old item back.


Multiple piece orders are a regular thing we deal with. Most of the year they just roll through like any other order. When we are busy we reserve the right to add 2 days to the "scheduled to ship by" date for each extra piece in the order. Generally when we are not behind or busy we will do these one after another in order. When we are busy we will do one or two pieces per day and ship each piece as they are done. You can request them shipped all at once if you prefer.


We generally do not notify customers if an item is going past the Etsy estimated ship date as we have many open orders at any given time. But if you want to know the progress of the order at any time please message us here on Etsy with the order number and we can tell you where the item is in our process and estimate when it will ship. Feel free to message us any time. Generally we answer Etsy messages in the morning, during lunch and in the afternoon. Sometimes we are able to reply sooner. If you do not hear back from us within 8 hours or overnight it means we simply forgot to get back to you. In that case please send is another message.


We do not do rush orders for an extra cost. To do that a shop would have to put your order ahead of someone who ordered before you. We don't think that is fair whether it's paid for or not. We also simply don't believe a shop would use overtime, or spare time to work on just that one order to rush it. When it comes down to it someone gets their order placed ahead of someone who ordered earlier. We do often work orders into gaps in our schedule. Just let us know if you have any requests and we can see if we can help.

Additional policies and FAQs
**** SHIP DATE ****

The Etsy estimated ship date does not always reflect actual ship date. When we get multiple orders in a short time or multi piece orders that means a longer time to complete the orders that come after that. The Etsy estimated ship date does not reflect those things. Be sure to check with us about an actual lead/ship time/date.

**** The ship date for every order is on the order page of your Etsy account. Just click "you/purchases/orders and then select the order.

We can and will give you a different ship date on custom items. This is also is not a guaranty or a promise. However we will work tirelessly and work over time and weekends to meet special deadlines. Many times we ship very early. Very busy times we may ship late.

If you order multiple pieces we may exceed the Etsy estimated ship date up to two days per extra item past the first one.

**** IN STOCK ITEMS ****

Our in stock items are usually already packaged and ready to ship. That means they only need to be weighed and a label made. In busy times they may not be boxed yet and will need to be. This is why we have a 3-5 day lead time to process. This is so we can work them into our already busy shipping schedule. In heavy business times like around holidays this time may exceed the 3-5 day lead time. We appreciate your patience and understanding in these times. If you are unsure about an in stock item, just message us and ask. We can tell you if the item is already boxed and/or when it would ship.


We ship to the address on the order unless you give us a different address in an Etsy message. If any item is returned by UPS because the address is wrong we will message you with that information. We can re ship the item. Understand you would be responsible for the extra shipping costs. In the case of UPS that means the cost to return the item to us. As standard industry policy, if an item is left here more than 30 days it is considered abandoned and may be sold.


*** On some of our racks in pictures we show them with steel corner braces. These are not standard pieces. We no longer use these pieces. We will be replacing the pics asap.


*** Pipes are standard plumbing pipes from several sources so the color or look of pipes may not match each other. However we use the best quality pipes available with no scratches, burrs and no sharp edges. As you can see from the photos our pipes are larger diameter than other shops and also nicer. Holes pre drilled may not always line up perfectly. In those case feel free to run the screws in. The wood is soft and screws are pointed to make their own holes.


Item packing lists and instructions are online and not in the package. The instructions for most racks is at If you have any questions about items or instructions please feel free to message us here on Etsy anytime and we will answer as quickly as possible.



Our tables are made by running pieces through a planer that makes the pieces smooth and flat. That maximum width is 20 inches.

** Tables/desks. We do not make any tables wider (front to back) than 20" or longer than 59" at this time. If you order a made to order table and specify a wider width we reserve the right to either cancel the order or ship you a table that is 20" wide.

** If you order a desk or console table and do not specify height we will default to standard desk height of 30"

** If you order an end table and do not specify height we will default to standard height of 23"

** If you order a desk and do not specify width we will default to the maximum 20" width.

** If you order a console table and do not specify width we will default to the maximum width of 17"

** Our measurements on any item are +/- 1/2"

** Length means total length and is always the longest measurement.

** Width is front to back when looking at an item and it's total width.

** Height means total height. If you order a desk 30" high that is the total height.


** All of our pieces are made with reclaimed, recycled, up cycled, used and new wood. We use the white woods which include White Spruce, White Fir and White Pine. As our pieces are made with these woods they naturally come with holes, cracks, scratches etc. These add to the character of the wood. However we do fill deep scratches, holes and cracks. Cracks and holes have permanent repairs so they do not get worse later on.

** All surfaces are smooth to the touch. We use Minwax oil stains and Satin clear lacquer. It's the flattest lacquer available. It has a bit of shine but not much. Desks are good for writing or other activities.

** All of our pieces have rounded corners and beveled edges. There are no sharp edges on any piece we make.

How much is shipping?

Assembly is easy and can be done in 15 minutes or less on most of our pieces with a single tool. A #3 Phillips head screwdriver is all that is needed.

Why are our clothing racks better than others on Etsy?

1. Stability, the bases on our racks are 14" wide and that is wider than other shops very narrow bases. Ours are much more stable.
2. Pipe size, ours are 3/4" with a diameter of 1&1/4" vs their 1/2" with a diameter of 7/8" Our fittings are larger and thicker and much nicer.
3. Our wood is made from pieces. This allows us to use better wood. Other shops use a single piece of 2x12 (1&1/2"x11&1/2") that's usually Yellow pine which does not look good stained.
4. More choices. We have more available lengths, styles and stain choices. We have more in stock items and far more made to order options.
5. Quality. Our wood is planed, sanded with three grits, has edges beveled and corners rounded. Clear is sanded between coats. No snags anywhere.
