Announcement   Welcome to Vintage Pickle!

Home to all those oddities and treasures I can't help buying and you might realize you can't live without!

Why the name, you ask? I have been an enthusiastic collector for decades, enjoying the thrill of unearthing new vintage "finds" wherever I go! Of course there is a limit to how much I can reasonably store in my small apartment (!!!), thus the ”in-a-pickle” dilemma. Plus, it was a funny nom-de-plume, so of course I gravitated towards it!

I am partial to whimsical old objects that make me laugh, fabulous bits and pieces of antique trim and hardware that I never quite got around to using (isn’t that ALWAYS the case?), vintage clothing, jewelry, books, home decor, any great old design and of course, ephemera: old photos, books, artwork, vintage patterns, greeting cards and old advertising.

Do not hesitate to convo me if you have any questions. Make sure to read my shipping policies if you want optional insurance - I will try to be as fair and as flexible as I can!

Please respect the RESERVED FOR items - don't click on them unless you are the intended buyer!

Find us on Facebook, where we write tidbits on vintage oddities!!

Thanks and have fun exploring my shop!

About

Unabashed collector loves sharing her treasures

Years ago, a friend with an ETSY shop kept nudging me to open a store here, saying "you have enough in your collections to sell for your lifetime..DO IT!!" Well, since I was a bit of an internet neophyte who hadn't even been a member of eBay let alone ever bought anything vintage on the internet, the prospect was completely daunting!

I started slowly and sold my first item immediately! I was delighted, and a whole new world opened up! Now, mind you, I am no spring chicken (!!!) so between still typing with only two fingers and teaching myself to edit pictures, it has been a real learning curve, but the rewards have been wonderful! I have made so many marvelous friends and connections with lovely buyers and have even met a few long time clients when they came to town.

I thought this was a great way to whittle down my thousands of collected vintage and antique items to make room for myself in my living and work spaces but sadly, the bug to keep buying is still deeply ingrained! I should really wear a t-shirt that reads "Addicted to estate sales - stop me now!"

I haven't yet still figured out what best to sell ( I have a lot of Victorian era ephemera yet to list) but the process is fun and I try to list an eclectic mix and price items to move. Hard to believe that as of now I have sold over 2100 items and it hasn't made a dent!

I have had a main business for 39 years, renting 1860s to 1980 clothing and accessories to films and theater (see photos). The business affords me the opportunity to go on private estate sale calls to buy clothing items for my main business, but NOW I have an excuse to rationalize away buying everything else that amuses and attracts me because, I tell myself, "Oh, this is for Etsy". Of course, the piles keep getting bigger! Help. :-)

Owner, Curator And Buyer Of All Things Antique And Vintage!

I stumbled into my first auction across the street from me when I was 13 with only $3 in my pocket. The auctioneer felt sorry for me and let me buy three Elbert Hubbard books for a dollar each. I've never stopped buying!

I have always believed that old objects have a history, magic and unique charm that modern things lack. I like the idea of unearthing old treasures and giving them a new life!

Accepted payment methods

  • Money Order
  • Check
Payment
I accept PAYPAL, credit cards and checks. All payments should be completed no later than 3 days after purchase, but if you have special circumstances or would like to pay in installments, please contact me for a mutually beneficial arrangement.

I am happy to reserve items for you, but if the item isn't bought by the date agreed upon, the reserve will be removed. I will convo you first to verify.
Shipping
We ship USPS First Class and Priority Mail. Convo if you want items sent more cheaply via Parcel Post or more quickly via Express Mail, FedEx or UPS, which we are happy to do at your expense.

We ship within 2 business days of PayPal confirmation or cleared checks. Our ETSY items are at our workspace so we have access to them only Monday through Friday.

We believe strongly in recycling and will use clean, recycled materials such as large cartons, & tissue paper as often as possible, but use NEW glassine envelopes, cardboard, bubble wrap and smaller outer packaging materials. Everything will be sturdily well-packed.

For safety and security, ALL packages are taken to and sent from a local Post Office.

Items sent Priority Mail automatically have tracking and up to $50 insurance, but we are happy to add insurance or tracking to any other packaging at your request and expense. We keep our shipping and handling prices low, so insurance will add to the cost.

We are happy to combine shipping on items bought either in unison or at different times during the day and always reimburse any excess Shipping and Handling charges via Paypal only.

If we have undercharged for shipping, that is our responsibility. If we discover we have over-estimated shipping and handling, we reimburse you via PayPal.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING:

Overseas sales account for over 30% of our customer base, so if we have neglected to list an international shipping price, it is an oversight so please do not hesitate to ask.

International buyers are responsible for any VAT and customs fees.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are not happy with your purchase, please contact us upon its arrival.

* If , in a "senior moment" I neglected to describe a MAJOR flaw, or if we convoed beforehand with questions about a garment or glove size difficult to assess, we are more than happy to accept returns and reimburse you for the purchase price (the shipping fee is your responsibility). The item has to be sent back within the week of contacting me and must be in the same condition and packaging that it was mailed in.

* I always convo buyers who buy an item described with faults before sending it to them to be sure they are aware and read the entire description - I am happy to cancel the sale if they inadvertently missed the full description and bought on a whim purely based on a photo.

* I try to be very specific about both the descriptions and photographs so read the descriptions and examine the photos carefully so there will be no surprises when you receive the item (aside from hopefully thinking how fabulous it is!)

* If you have any concerns or questions about a piece, please do not hesitate to contact me prior to making a purchase and I will be happy to give you any additional information, measurements or send additional pictures you may need about the item in question

* Because each item is vintage and unique, we do not offer exchanges or credit, only refunds.

* We are generally not responsible for uninsured items that are lost or damaged in the mail, unless it is the fault of our packing (but we are GREAT packers!), but again, we are flexible and not unreasonable, especially if something is proven lost and undelivered.

* Though there will be items listed in mint condition, the items offered are authentically 30-150 years old, so some items may have aged visibly yet gracefully, with slight imperfections. Be assured that we will describe flaws or imperfections to the best of our ability and even photograph close-ups of damages, but our blanket statement is that items are being sold "AS IS" since they are old and we make no pretense of them being completely new and perfect, though they may be (perfect, that is!)!
Additional policies and FAQs
SIZING FOR CLOTHES:
Remember, yesterday’s 14 is today’s 8, so you can’t pay too much attention to the original size tags on vintage garments!

Measurements are in inches but to convert to centimeters, go to:
http://www.metric-conversions.org/length/inches-to-centimeters-table.htm

. Bust/Chest: measured flat, from underarm seam to underarm seam, then doubling the number. Since you are probably not going to wear a skin-tight garment, choose a garment you already own to get a better idea of comparable sizing (e.g.: If our blouse is 44” and your bra size is a 44, you will probably want a blouse that measures 46”)
. Waist: on waist seam, end to end and then doubled
. Hip: at the widest part, which is 7” down from the waist - end to end and then doubled.
. Inseam: on the inside seam, from the crotch to the end of pant leg. We also note if there is any extra material in the hem to lengthen. This will be noted in parentheses, e.g.(+3)
.Shoulders (back): seam to seam, from where the back shoulder seams meet the armscye seam.

We are happy to answer any questions or take any additional measurements for you that we haven't listed, just ask!
