As prints were born...
Most of antique prints we found today, were part of a lovely fine book in the past or as Scientific Interest book supplement for publications to diverse institutions, for example, biologists, zoologists, naturalists, scientists etc.
Until the late 19th century vast majority of the prints were produced to insert into a book and each one was a small masterpiece and were made to last.
The concept of a book 100 years ago has nothing to do with the concept of a book that we have today (as an ordinary item, I mean, because the books will always be something wonderful of course).
Until mechanization of printing in 20th century, the picture book was considered a luxury item and a work of art, mostly with high-quality illustrations, There are prints 100, 200 and 300 year old that surely will last another 200 years. The quality of these prints is comparable to the one that is used today for fine works of art

The book illustration is recognized as one of the fine arts in the 19th century.

About techniques...
-Wood engraving is a technique for printing images when the artist worked with a block of wood. The technique of wood engraving was developed at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century
-Steel engraving is a technique for printing illustrations, based on steel instead of copper. Was much used in the 19th century. Steel engraving was introduced in 1792 .
-Lithography is a method for printing using a stone or a metal plate invented in 1796.
-Chromolithography is a method for making multi-color prints. This type of color printing stemmed from the process of lithography, and it includes all types of lithography that are printed in color. About

What began as a hobby is now my main job

About five years ago I worked as editorial designer in the department of a large Book Publishing company, until the famous ''crisis'' arrived. At that time my department was eliminated and I was fired.
While I was looking for a new job I decided to open a etsy shop to earn some money reselling vintage items from my own collection. (I am collector of vintage stuff and I love the old illustrated books)
During a while I was still having some work as a freelance designer, always running, always stressed and earning little money.
Then my etsy shop grew, and I specialized in antique prints which I adore. After a while I realized that I loved attending the store and look for nice vintage prints to resell, and decided to leave my job as a freelance designer to fully dedicate myself to the online store, and I think that has been one of the best decisions I ever made...
