About

A Creatively Salvaged Life

The story of Violetteslippers goes back much further than the actual shop you see here!

After getting married almost 25 years ago and starting our life together, my husband and I set about decorating our first apartment. Like many other newlyweds, we had the usual furniture donations from family members, and this made up most of our decor at the time.

Growing up in a thrifting, vintage-loving family, I relished this decorating challenge and spent a lot of time hunting down dressers, a kitchen table, chairs, armoires, end tables, trunks and other pieces. Hubby volunteered to paint them light and cheerful colors for our place (a fun mix of Shabby Chic/Paris Apt/French Country). The more rustic, battered and chipped the better, as long as they were useful and fit in our home..... We had a ball and I probably drove him crazy, but he always loved the end results (and still does today).......

In the middle of this decorating free-for-all, however, one thing caught my attention - there was a serious lack of vintage handles and knobs out there! The major home improvement stores only carried modern, expensive styles, and at the other end of the spectrum, there were cheap looking, low-quality pieces. So we just painted and distressed the ones we already had......

Then the internet came along, and opened up a whole world of possibilities! I had already started my shop on the other e-site that we all know, and spent almost 10 years selling vintage clothing, books, accessories and home decor. This trained me how to operate a business online, interact with all types of different buyers around the world, write listings, take good photographs, research how other buyers operated their shops, and so much more.

Discovering and joining Etsy in 2008 was such a relief for me! I was really burned out with the auctions on you-know-where, and needed to make a fresh start. I wanted so much to narrow my focus down to something that would allow me to spend more time with our young daughter. Lastly, a diagnosis of a serious, chronic health problem confirmed the need for changes.

Initially starting out with the same items from my previous place, I slowly began salvaging and collecting interesting hardware, which then evolved into Violetteslippers as it is today. I can't tell you how much fun it is to find and offer these different pieces to people all over the world, and it's even more exciting when buyers say that this is exactly what they wanted :)

I look forward to helping you fill your hardware needs, thank you for being here!

Hello and welcome to Violetteslippers Vintage! You will find that I am very easy to work with as a seller AND a buyer. Comments, suggestions, opinions and ideas are appreciated and welcomed here :) Have a great day and thank you for stopping by!

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
  • Money Order
Payment
From buyers in the U.S., I accept Paypal and money orders. Outside the U.S., Paypal only.
Shipping
U.S. buyers = all packages are shipped by First Class, Parcel Post, or Priority Mail.

International buyers = all packages are shipped via First Class International, Priority International Flat Rate or Global Priority, depending on the weight and customer preference.

****Just a note about Customs - every country is different, so please check into your country's fees, as you will be responsible for them (and they are not included in your purchase price/shipping charges). Also, international packages are sometimes delayed in the customs office, this has happened quite a lot over the last few years.

Overnight shipping is also available, just ask! I use recycled materials for packing, such as plastic bags, newspapers, glossy magazine/catalog pages, paper bags, and cardboard boxes (not former food containing ones though!), and sometimes bubble wrap from my own purchases :)
Refunds and Exchanges
Every transaction/purchase is unique, and if you are truly unhappy with your purchase, please notify me and we can work it out by an exchange, store credit, or refund :) Shipping charges coming and going are non-refundable (unless, again, I have made a gross error in representing the item).... My number one goal on Etsy is customer satisfaction, so please communicate with me! I am also a buyer here on Etsy and am very easy to work with.....In the U.S. every item is shipped with free Delivery Confirmation, if you would like insurance it is available for an extra charge. If you are outside the U.S. and would like to purchase tracking/insurance of any kind, please let me know and it can be arranged.
Additional policies and FAQs
Just a note about vintage hardware: if a piece or pieces are really dirty/grimy, they get a soak and scrub, otherwise they may get a surface cleaning. Please be aware that most are in need of some kind of cleaning before use.

Feel free to convo me anytime if you have questions - always happy to help!
