Amazingly beautiful quality. So tenderly made. This is an incredible piece that I will treasure always.
I love to dress people in their dreams :)
When I was little I wanted to be a dancer. I was drawn to the pretty costumes: the tutu's, the character skirts. And I loved looking at pictures of the Carnival of Venice, with it's swirling colours, luscious fabrics, beautiful and grotesque masks.
I didn't grow up to be a dancer, but I have followed my heart to the bigger, all encompassing passion of creating beautiful clothes, costumes and dolls for all to enjoy. All the inspiration I absorbed as a child and adult goes into these creations, along with the technical skills I love using so much.
In my living history garments I strive for accuracy while creating comfortable, hard wearing clothes that aren't costumes but functional garments, and a means of connecting with the reality of our past. I put a lot of effort into researching each garment, and much care for my client's needs. I cover the whole range of eras from the beginning of time to modern day, catering to ladies, gentlemen and their offspring.
The same care and attention to detail is given to my modern dressmaking and to my stage and screen costuming.
After many years working in the costume and high-end fashion arenas, I now have my own little workroom, taking on private clients for historical garments, costumes, ladieswear, menswear, bridal and special occasion gowns ( I love making for performers!), accessories, embroidery, and alterations. I teach sewing lessons, too, as I believe it's important to share and pass on skills.
Past clients include: the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company, Wellington City Opera, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Fenwick (Bond Street), Jaeger (Regent Street), Harvey Nichols (Knightsbridge), La Bottega del Costume (Venice), Cloud 9 OnScreen Entertainment, The Costume Cave (Wellington), the National Trust... and I have been a duty manager/front of house manager/chief steward for the St James Theatre (Wellington), the Opera House (Wellington), Stratford Circus Theatre (London), Millfield Theatre (London) and the Royal Albert Hall (London).
I enjoy making art dolls as well, and have a second Etsy shop where I hope to display my wares. More on that later...
I speak Italian and some French as well, if anyone would like to talk to me in their own languages. Parlo italiano e anche un poco di franchese; je parle italienne et aussi en peu de francais.
Oh, and I go to the Carnival of Venice every year, get dressed up, swoosh around town as an C18th lady! It's pure decadence. You've got to live your dreams, right?
I love my work, and I love helping you bring your dreams into reality. Come live another life with me.
