A Love Affair with Creating
He elaborado desde que tengo memoria. Cuando era una niña que se suponía que debía dormir toda la noche, hacía manualidades debajo de las sábanas usando una linterna como mi única luz. Nunca me cansaba de crear.
A lo largo de mi vida, crearía de alguna forma o moda. Lo que sea, lo he hecho. Cada año hacía adornos navideños con mis hijos, cosía la ropa de mi hija, hacía muñecas de trapo... la lista sigue y sigue. Hasta el día de hoy, no puedo quedarme quieto y mirar televisión. Siempre tengo que tener algo en mis manos. Cuando viajo, generalmente trabajo a mano cosiendo una colcha de jardín de la abuela mientras viajo en el avión o me siento en el automóvil.
Si bien la mayoría de mis ventas en Etsy han consistido en joyas católicas/basadas en la fe, joyas artísticas de arcilla polimérica y artículos de decoración del hogar, voy a comenzar a vender artículos como minicolchas, alfileteros y patrones en mi tienda. Continuaré vendiendo joyas basadas en la fe, sin embargo, las joyas de comida chatarra de arcilla polimérica que he estado diseñando y vendiendo desde mediados de la década de 2000 están siendo descontinuadas. Esto se debe a dos razones principales: la primera es que estoy un poco agotado después de hacer esto durante casi dos décadas. El segundo es que el número de imitadores que usan mi concepto original ahora es de cientos y ya no es factible para mí continuar haciendo estos diseños. Dicen que la imitación es la forma más sincera de adulación, pero cuando afecta el resultado financiero, es hora de cambiar un poco las cosas.

Me encargaron hacer las joyas para las celebraciones de canonización de San Damián de Molokai en Hawái hace unos años. Mis bisutería hecha a mano con comida cursi se venden en el museo Jell-O de Nueva York y en otras tiendas minoristas de los Estados Unidos. Prilosec OTC me otorgó el premio "Eco-Chic Jewelry Artist" en el verano de 2011.

I've crafted as long as I can remember. When I was a young girl who was supposed to be asleep for the night, I'd be crafting under the covers using a flashlight as my only light. I never could get enough of creating.
Throughout my life, I'd create in some form or fashion. You name it, I've done it. I'd make Christmas ornaments with my kids each year, sew my daughter's outfits, make rag dolls....the list goes on and on. To this day, I can't just sit still and watch television. I always have to have something in my hands. When traveling, I usually work on hand sewing a grandmother's garden quilt while I ride on the plane or sit in the car.
While the majority of my sales on Etsy have consisted of faith-based/Catholic jewelry, polymer clay art jewelry and home decor items, I'm going to begin selling items such as mini quilts, pincushions and patterns to my shop. I will continue to carry faith-based jewelry, however the polymer clay junk food jewelry that I have been designing and selling since the mid- 2000's is being discontinued. This is due to two primary reasons - the first is I'm a bit burned out after making these for almost two decades. The second is the number of copycats using my original concept is now in the hundreds and it is no longer feasible for me to continue with making these designs. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but when it cuts into the financial bottom line, it's time to change things up a bit.

I was commissioned to make the jewelry for the St. Damien of Molokai canonization celebrations in Hawaii a few years ago. My handmade kitschy food jewelry is sold at the Jell-O museum in New York and other retail outlets in the United States. I was awarded the "Eco-Chic Jewelry Artist" by Prilosec OTC in the summer of 2011.
