Announcement   Hand Carved Christmas Ornaments and Figures. Each ornament is hand carved in my own unique style of rounding and relief, yet the wood is only 3/8" to 1/2" thick. The weight is perfect for hanging on a Christmas Tree. Each figure is carved in the round from various sizes of basswood. See the sizes listed on each individual piece. Carved from quality Northern basswood, for collectors and Christmas lovers. I design and carve a variety of Christmas Ornaments, as well as Santas figures, Wood Spirits, Walking Sticks, Sea Captains, Cowboys and other gifts. I sometimes carve using the thick bark of Cottonwood trees that have been collected from the forest floors.

I have always had a passion for creating out of wood. Early on, I gave away many of my carvings. Then as the ideas kept coming to mind and I carved more and more, I had more carvings than I had funds. I discovered that either I had to sell some of the carvings or I would have to quit carving, and I couldn't bear that.

I started carving Santas in the fall of 1986 and within a few years I was teaching my own classes, yet continuing to take classes from others. My passion for learning how to carve better and better consumes me at times. I still take many classes a year as well as teach 2 times a week in my own studio. I enjoy teaching others to carve because I love it so much and I want everyone to find the joy in carving that I have found.

Look under my profile to find out how I started my love affair with wood and the season of Christmas! A story of a mother's love.

I have been honored at the response to the book PJ Peery and I wrote called, Carving Woodspirits: Beyond the Basics. Here are a few comments sent to me;

Good morning Susan,
You are more than welcome to post my comments. I have recommended it to the carving groups here in Mobile. I also plan to post a review on some forums I visit.
You and yours have a wonderful day

And on the WalkingstickForum.com . Under General.

Good day Susan,
The book came in todays mail. I have spent some time reading it. I want to complement you on a job well done. I have been carving for some time and I have been buying how to books sense I started. I have a pile of worthless publications. Yours is one of the best I have seen. I would have loved to have had this when I started. I know the person that will be getting it will be grateful to have it.
Thank you and Keep Carving!
CV Wood.
AKA Randy.

I am submitting an order for two books. I saw this book in a carving group I belong to and thought it was one of the best books I've seen on carving wood spirits. I also have a friend who would like one so that's why I'm ordering two. Would you please autograph them for me.
Thanks ken

Got the book! Love it! The format is great, the descriptions / instructions go well with the photo's. This is by far the most detailed, easy to understand carving book I have seen!

Customer Reviews from TreelineUSA

An AWESOME book Review by Smilinquilter
This book is extremely well done and easy to follow.
The clear step by step photos and explanations make carving so easy. The progress shots help to make sure you are carving it properly, which I found very helpful.
I followed the book, step by step and in 2 hours I had a wood spirit carving and I am a novice at best. (I carved it on a pumpkin and the principles still worked
The principles taught in this book will help with any face carving. I appreciated the tips sections and the knowledge I gained from them.
This is a must buy...you won't regret it, for sure!!

(Posted on 9/11/13) Best Woodspirit Book published

Review by Philphoto
If you are interested in carving Woodspirits, and do not want to buy an entire library on the subject -- buy this book. It is the most comprehensive book published on the subject.

I have all sorts of Woodspirit books, from a variety of publishers, and authors. I try to absorb as much "how to" information as I can. This book is the absolute best book on the subject I have ever seen. Many will tell you to cut like "this" and give a couple of face position techniques. None have gone to the lengths these authors have to ensure you understand the front -- side -- why and where of every part and cut and when to apply the technique. Photographs and diagrammed photos are (my best guess) 50% of the book content. If you need photos and diagrams -- this is your book. Very little is spent on tools, which are covered but not like other books, and that is fine with me. I want technique and a clear understanding of how deep and what direction to make the cut. This book delivers on that. There were many pages devoted to proportions and how to arrive at them. No other book has devoted even 25% of what these authors do regarding proportions.

I assure you, I get nothing whatsoever, if this book succeeds or fails -- I have my copy -- I am not a professional or paid reviewer. I am a very happy customer. If you buy this book, I am sure you will be happy as well.
