Succulents are one of the many examples in nature where a species gloriously overcomes tremendous odds.

The idea for Waterstone Succulents evolved out of a thematic interest in the desert that I first explored in painting. I am fascinated with the tenacious, inventive and beautiful ways succulents in the mid-continental US and elsewhere have adapted over geological time to the extreme environments in which they now thrive. Succulents are masters of survival; their ‘succulence’ defined by an incredible ability to store water internally, conserving it for times of drought. By doing so, their lush, plump leaves become the visual antithesis of what common sense would tell you is physically possible given their environmental circumstances. They are one of many examples in nature where a species gloriously overcomes tremendous odds.

From the beginning, I wanted to create something entirely new that wouldn’t suffer by comparison to the live plants. I faced many obstacles along the way, problem solving one by one until the final product was achieved. I believe it’s the pristine whites, luminous metallic and playful neon colors that set these apart. As soon as I began applying paint, I said to myself ‘Ooo… now you have something.’

Welcome! Thank you for visiting my shop!

I have provided a list of frequently asked questions for buyers below:

*If I send you my zip code can I receive shipping for less?

Shipping prices may seem a little steep at $10 for one item but I can guarantee you, after the USPS quoted price (which is determined by weight and destination), tracking and a small fee for packaging materials like bubble wrap, peanuts and boxing, the listed shipping prices are quite reasonable. In fact, I usually end up spending more than the listed shipping price.

*Can I get a discount on shipping costs for a large order?

Shipping large orders is still expensive and the cost of $10 for one item plus $3 for each additional item (sent inside the US) is usually accurate in determining how much you can expect to pay for shipping.

*If I live in Denver can I save on shipping by picking up my order?

Since I work out of my house, I cannot accommodate pick-ups. Depending on your location, I may be able to drop your package off for a flat fee.

*Do you ship overseas?

It is critical that overseas buyers read my shipping and refund policies below.
I truly wish I could offer my overseas customers a better deal.

*Can I get my item in a custom color not currently offered in your shop?

Yes, however, you must order 5 items or more. To accommodate a custom color I must purchase additional paint for around $8, so it is only cost effective for me to offer this with larger orders. Thank you for understanding.

*Are these real plants?

Although this was quite the science experiment, I guarantee these are 100% NOT live plants. There is no maintenance required. They are sculptures.

*What are these made of?

Both the bases and the succulents themselves are cast in a durable plaster. One or the other is then painted.

I truly wish I could offer my overseas customers a better deal.

The prices listed for these countries are for USPS First Class. Since the items I produce are fragile and fairly heavy, it is expensive. I do my very best to package all fragile items appropriately, however, USPS does not take responsibility for the handling of items shipped outside the US, therefore I cannot guarantee their safe arrival. If items are damaged during shipping, I can only offer a partial refund depending on the extent of the damage minus the cost of shipping, or send replacement items with the added cost of the second shipment. It is up to the buyer as to whether or not he/she believes the purchase is worth the risk.

**To date, two individual items in two separate shipments out of several dozen overseas shipments have lost a leaf in transit.

**If you have overpaid for shipping, I will refund you the difference.

FedEx and UPS provide coverage for their international shipments but they are generally twice as expensive as USPS. If you would like to pay extra for either of these carriers, please contact me before purchasing and I will add on the additional costs.
Refunds and Exchanges
Continental United States:

**All succulents sold in my shop are fragile. I do my very best to package them appropriately for a bumpy ride and the probability of an item arriving damaged is very low; approximately 1 for every 200 shipped.

**Should any damage occur during shipping, please contact me within one week of receipt of shipment with a photo documenting the damage and I will be happy to replace your item for free.

If you are simply not satisfied with your succulent, please don't hesitate to contact me within one week from receipt of shipment and I will gladly try and work something out with you to your satisfaction.

Since these are all handmade items and made to order, I cannot facilitate returns.

For overseas shipments, please read the above 'Shipping' policy.
