Superbly packaged. Took about 5 weeks to arrive USA- UK. Content is very clear video and audio. Warning to UK residents, be prepared to pay £56 customs duty on delivery. If it wasn't for the extra cost at delivery I would have given this 5 stars.

About

I've been addicted to arts and crafts for as long as I can remember! I love sharing my passion with others.

I've been addicted to arts and crafts for as long as I can remember! I love sharing my passion with others.

In 2011 my daughter Jenalea who was pregnant with my first grandchild gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who lost his struggle for life due to a cord incident only a couple of hours after birth. That loss was so overwhelming for our entire family. My daughter and I turned to the one thing that over the years has been a constant source of comfort or likely more of a distraction or stress reliever.. "arts and crafts". While we grieved together, she crocheted and painted and crafted jewelry. I started sculpting tiny hearts that were wounded and broken trying to express my pain in some shape or form other than just the tears that rolled down my cheeks. I started the "Mending Broken Hearts" collection on my Etsy shop.

I continue to create these broken hearts and will do so for the rest of my life. Each time I sculpt one I remember my little Marcus Alan and his short but beautiful existence. My heart goes out to any mother who has lost a child or grandchild and I hope that my art will somehow comfort her. By sharing my hearts perhaps a little piece of baby Marc lives on after all.

All of my pieces are hand sculpted usually with polymer clay. Sometimes I use metal clay. Some of my hearts are coated with metal and antiqued or rusted to a beautiful patina. I try to use vintage pieces and recycled chains whenever I have the chance. Something about using materials that would otherwise be discarded brings comfort to me. Also when words are applied to my pieces, they are taken from vintage women’s magazines. Using the very old clippings usually from 1930’s and earlier magazines induces a certain amount of nostalgia when I hold a finished piece in my hand. The rustic and hand molded process in which I create my hearts and the vintage and recycled feeling of the pieces is intentional and the “less new” they seem the more success I feel.

As time passes… the open wounds of my broken heart heal but the scar remains and I somehow see myself evolving as a different person with the scar becoming a part of my life and shaping my future. My love and loss of baby Marc has opened a piece of my heart to allow more compassion and empathy to enter. We cannot change the pain that was brought by such a tragic loss but we can use the pain to grow and to help others and to bring honor to the memory and the names of our babies.

I hope you enjoy my artwork and please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Welcome to my shop.

~ About The Artist ~

I'm a mother of 5 kids, wife, full time work at home project manager for an survey systems company, and a web developer.

I have a million hobbies, painting in oils, acrylics, watercolor, drawing with colored pencils, sculpting with polymer clay and metal clay, jewelry making, collecting vintage jewelry, crochet, sewing, quilting, artist cards, you name it, if it’s arts and crafts related, I probably have done it.

I recently discovered my love of colored pencils and have been drawing with them since September of 2014. I have won many awards and am now selling my art to high end collectors. I have a piece called "Wisdom" that will be on display and for sale at Art Basel in Miami, Florida in December of 2015. I have been teaching colored pencil workshops and you can see my schedule for attending in person workshops at wendylayne.com/workshops.

I’m also a published author -“Beyond the Present - A Memoir, by Wendy Layne” is sold on Amazon, Barnes & Noble online and various other online and brick and mortar bookstores and is also available for Kindle.

~ Disclaimer ~

I try to take accurate photos of my art/crafts, however, actual colors may vary slightly from the colors on your computer monitor. All of my sculptures are hand sculpted, not using molds and some imperfections are not only expected but intended to enhance and add to the originality of the art. For steampunk jewelry, the parts used to enhance the piece are from very old and often antique watches and are expected to occasionally have minor scuffs or scratches which adds to the beauty and originality of the piece. I make every attempt to represent the item as it is but If you have questions, please ask before committing to purchase.
