When I Was 20

In June of 2013, I was looking around my Mom's basement when I unearthed a portfolio of figure drawings from my first two years as an art student in the mid-seventies. The drawings were done from poses lasting between five and twenty minutes, and were in poor condition with lots of rips, water damage, and discoloration. But despite their condition, what shown through was the freedom of the times and the spontaneity and confidence of a young artist working in the moment.

To make my prints, I photograph the drawings outside in the shade, and then I edit them on my computer. I don't try to make them look new. It was like opening a time capsule when I found them, and I like their signs of age. Recently, I've also designed three "When I Was 20" greeting cards that I think reflect my ideals and the spirit of my collection in a fun way. I hope you enjoy my "When I Was 20" collection!
