The Story of how WhiteArrow came into WhiteArrow Clothing!
I've been working with fabric, leather and beads for 40 + years. As a child, I remember the feeling as I stuck my hands in huge cans of buttons my mother had collected, and felt them as they fell through my fingers.. she was my inspiration to explore, study & play with textiles and through the years she taught me that if I wanted or needed it, I could figure out how to make it! Although I worked in a variety of professions, I never quit dreaming, designing and creating with fabrics, leathers & hides, beads & buttons!
As an UmoHon (Omaha) Native American Traditional dancer, I am surrounded with the colors, designs, materials, songs, stories, and traditions, both old & new that make up my culture and inspire me! I was privileged to study multiple disciplines with a dear friend and amazing Ojibwa bead artist, taking my work to a whole new level in the 1980's and incorporated these disciplines in to my work,. In the early 1990's, I had the opportunity to assist a Native Elder & bead instructor teaching at North West Indian College. I had also met & married my husband, a drum maker, leather worker, & Wild Life artist, combining our artistry.
Working with so many amazing textile and bead artists, has presented me the opportunity to teach the designing and making of Powwow clothing including moccasins, shawls and other needed accessories, as well as beading classes. Along side of my husband, we have also taught hand drum and rattle making to 100’s over the past 20+ years. So when the economy shifted and the corporate world changed, my dream of a studio filled with color & sound that took inspiration to creativity, transitioned from vision to reality.
Creating custom clothing and accessories to fit many needs is my passion. From the custom silk bag to match a bridal gown, to designer baby wraps for the fashion conscious mommy…custom clothing & accessories, powwow regalia to beaded cowboy hats…rattles to hand bags, hide bags, drum bags or utilitarian bags, creating is my art form, leather, furs, textiles, conchos, buttons and beads are my medium.
" All glory to my Creator for His inspiration in every creation."
