The color block rug is solid craftsmanship. Jennifer was responsive to questions and provided photos, diagrams, and swatches to help me better understand the different shades of yellow to find what matched my preferences. Great service. Well made product.

About

Weaving! Weaving! Weaving!

My Story: Welcome to White Wave Originals. My name is Jennifer and I have been weaving handmade items since 1997. I was first introduced to weaving in college when I chose a weaving fibers class over a wood furniture class to satisfy a studio elective for my major. I wanted to keep my fingers intact but as it turned out , loved weaving so much I decided to add it as a minor. The rest, as they say, is history. I enjoy the art and design aspect of weaving but I am aware that people only have a finite amount of wall space and so I chose to pursue the functional applications of weaving. In doing so I identify myself as a craftsman rather than an artist. I enjoy sharing my craft with others!

Process: All of my woven items are made, by me, on my four shaft loom in my home studio in Greensburg Pennsylvania. Weaving is a timely process. Small rugs take 6 to 8 hours just to weave, not including dressing the loom, dyeing the yarn and finishing the rug ends. A large rug takes over 50 hours to make. The time frame for custom work varies from a week up to a month or more. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Yarn: The yarn I use for my rugs is manufactured in the United States and hand dyed by me. The wool yarn I use to make my scarves is also manufactured in the US. Most of the weft yarn I use in my scarves is made in the US but others come from Italy, Wales and Canada.

Additional policies and FAQs
Handwoven Rug Care Instructions:

Small rugs that fit easily in a washing machine can be machine washed alone in cold water and lay flat to dry. Rugs can be beaten or smaller rugs can be place in a dryer on “air dry” to remove dust and debris. Larger rugs can be spot cleaned with cold water and mild detergent. Vacuum carefully on high pile setting to avoid damaging the rug. Do not vacuum the fringe. All rugs must be cleaned with cold water.

Rugs are for indoor use. Outdoor use is not recommended, however if the rug is to be exposed to UV light (such as a sun room), spaying or washing the rug with a UV blocker is recommended.
