White Whale is an offshoot of our home business, Little Heroes Rattery. Originally established in 1999, Little Heroes Rattery operated successfully in Southern California for many years before closing down due to life circumstances. In 2016, I opened White Whale Apothecary on Etsy to sell my handmade goods. Over the years, we slowly transitioned into a fully rat-centric business.

Because I breed pet rats, I wanted to ensure that my pocket puppies received the best in nutrition and enrichment. I used my skills as a sewist to create hammocks, cubes, and a variety of textile goodies for my own rats. I conducted extensive research and delved into the nutritional requirements of this fantastic species. I learned that they don't have to subsist on a diet of rigid blocks, all with the same bland flavor.

After thorough research into the Shunamite Diet, I decided that this was the path I wanted to follow. I sent a sample of my final product to an independent laboratory for a guaranteed analysis, and the rest is history! We have become one of the most trusted brands on Etsy for homemade rat goods and are incredibly proud to offer our goodies to more than just our own mischief.
