A Trading Post by any Name

Trudy Silverheels founded this shop as a means of providing some financial support to the Griffoun Society (an association of artists, writers, and craftsmen in Houston, Texas). After Trudy's passing in 2014, the shop closed briefly, then reopened with a new name. Whitecrow Trading Post, you see, used to be called Silverheels Trading Post. Members of Trudy's family still operate the business, and we still donate a significant portion of the profits to the Griffoun Society, of which we are all members.

Shop members

  • Bea Garza Johnson

    Owner

Bea is a long-time member of the Griffoun Society (an association of artists, writers, and craftsmen), which is supported financially by this enterprise.

  • Madeleine Whitecrow Ashe

    Designer

Madeleine is the niece of our founder Trudy Silverheels. Most of the tribal jewelry offered for sale at this shop is designed by Madeleine.

  • Percy Cabot

    Artist/Photographer/Woodworker

Percy Cabot has been a part of this shop from the beginning, even when it was called Silverheels Trading Post.

Production partners

  • Madeleine Whitecrow Ashe

    Houston, TX

A full-time student, Madeleine has been designing "tribal" jewelry since she was twelve. She is not herself a member of any recognized indigenous tribe. But she learned from her great grandfather, who is a Navajo Jeweler and silversmith in Arizona.

  • Percy Cabot

    Houston, TX

Percy Cabot's preferred media are photography, assemblage, pencil, and printmaking. He is also an accomplished woodworker.

  • Trudy Silverheels (nee Linda Yazzie)

    Houston, TX

Trudy Silverheels was a member of this shop from its inception. Although she has now passed away, many of her original creations are still offered for sale here.
