The two machines that got us started.

I just thought it would be cool to have an embroidery machine.

When my now-wife and I were wandering the hallowed halls of Joanns during their Black Friday sale, we stumbled upon a Husqvarna embroidery machine for a good price. I thought that it would be neat to play around with, and she thought it could be useful since we did a fair amount of costuming. We walked out of the store with a fancy new machine and 24 months of modest monthly payments in our future.

We were both members of Boston's Rocky Horror Picture Show group, The Full Body Cast (Saturday nights at the AMC on Boston Common). Initially, I used the machine to fill out our merch table with fun designs by an artist on the cast, and they proved to be very popular. I also used the machine to make an obsessively screen-accurate Denton High School patch that Brad wears at the beginning of the movie, because I needed one for my outfit. The first one I made still lives on my tan jacket in my Brad bag. That design was among the first items I posed to Etsy, and still remains our best-seller.

Since then, we've moved house a few times, got some more machines and some more modest monthly payments, brought on more artists, and built out a pretty sick crafting area if I do say so myself. And I'm lucky enough to still be having fun with it, 6 years later.
