The blade is very sharp. It was actually cutting into the package it came in and at first I thought someone had cut open my package to steal from it. We haven't used it yet but I'm thrilled to finally have a hunting/kitchen blade instead of one or the other. I did wash it and it got rust spots so I be getting blade oil for it. My wife can't wait to break down the next animal with it!
