About

An Exploration of Nature

I use art and science to explore, observe and record patterns in behavior, space, and time in the world around me. Scientific inquiry and artistic expression complement each other and enrich my understanding of the natural world. My mother is an artist (see her Etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/NorthWorks ) and she has always encouraged me to express myself through drawing and painting. At Dartmouth College, I majored in ecology and minored in studio art. I was able to practice printmaking, sculpture and oil painting along with studying New England's trees, insects and wildlife. After graduating, I developed a unique style of drawing animals that is loosely based on my doodles. As I pursued my master's degree in wildlife biology at the University of Montana, the animal drawings became gifts for my friends as they finished their degrees.

Since moving to the vast landscape of the Northwest Territories to study caribou as part of my PhD research, I have been drawn to my camera. I strive to capture the allure and beauty of northern ecosystems. Over the past two years, I have found that with a camera in hand I am more attuned to the small details that make each day special. I love the moment of discovery when a seemingly normal object suddenly becomes extraordinary.

I am excited to share some of these moments with you in my Etsy shop! Thank you so much for your interest and please don't hesitate to contact me.

I recently retired after 29 years of working as a therapist on an Ojibwa Reservation in northern Wisconsin. With a bit of extra time on my hands I'm organizing the shipping and handling for my daughter's Etsy shop.
