About

Punk Rock Alchemy

I learned the value of a DIY ethic at a young age. I was raised by a single mother of three and resourcefulness was key in our household. Mom is credited with first introducing me to herbalism. Teas, tinctures and bad tasting supplements were always on hand, and colorful herb books filled our shelves. This combined with my immersion in the local punk scene made me crave the skills necessary to be totally self-reliant. Despite doing well in school, I skipped college and invested in a small library of books on everything from aromatherapy to homesteading. At first I didn't intend to sell my creations. I made them as an alternative to store-bought synthetic products for myself, family and close friends. But it wasn't long before I was selling my first herbal salves to the local health food store, funding my new-found hobby. I maintained a low key presence at farmers markets and craft fairs for the next four years, even while living off-the-grid in Northern California for half of that time. When I found myself back in "the city" I decided to take my most treasured recipes and reincarnate my products under the name Wild Rose.

I am fortunate to live on a two acre mini-farm in Southern Oregon's Rogue Valley. Here I design, blend, package and ship my products in a 400 square foot workshop + office surrounded by my herb garden. I'm entirely self-taught and have largely learned through experimentation over the past 8 years. My unique blends are made intuitively using the best, most ethically produced ingredients available.

Why Wild Rose? Well, at age 16 I got my paws on my very first wild edible and medicinal plants guide. I triumphantly went a-wandering through the alpine meadow down the street, determined to identify every shrub, grass and flower in site. This book was big, and the language was difficult to understand. I hesitantly identified a handful of herbs, though I wasn't certain of any. I began the walk home, a little unsure of my future as a botanist.
The edge of the meadow lead me to a group of low, unimpressive shrubs that I had passed many times before. As I walked by, I spotted a few small, pink flowers beginning to bloom. Call it instinct, or inter-species communication, but I knew at first glance that this modest shrub was definitely a useful plant. A few flips through my guide led me to the Wild Rose (or Wood Rose). Being the first herb I learned through intuition, I will always be drawn to the beauty and usefulness of this humble bush.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! Wild Rose ships to (almost) every corner of the Earth. All international orders will ship via USPS First Class Mail with insurance. Most orders arrive within two to four weeks but can take longer, especially during holidays. Cost of shipping includes insurance should your order become lost in the mail. Loss or damage of an order must be reported between 40-90 days from ship date (yes, in some instances, it really can take 40 days for your order to arrive!). Customs fees vary and are the sole responsibility of the buyer. Items returned for non-payment of customs fees will be refunded less the cost of shipping and fees. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot mark international items as "gifts" or alter the cost of goods.

What do you mean by "all natural?"

This means that our products are made from ingredients that can be easily collected or produced with materials found in nature without extreme processing. We mostly use raw plant materials, expeller pressed or steam distilled oils and organic alcohol extracts in our formulas. We do not use anything synthetic or chemically processed to make our products.

What's a GMO?

GMO stands for "Genetically Modified Organism." GMOs are generally created to withstand heavy pesticide use or, in some cases, produce their own pesticides. GMOs are a threat to sustainable farming through crop contamination and extreme pesticide resistance. Moreover, the longterm affects of GMO use on our land and bodies has not been determined. Here in Southern Oregon, voters have passed a ban on the cultivation of GMOs to protect our small farm economy. Wild Rose whole heartedly supports these efforts and we refuse to use any ingredients that are genetically modified.

What does "ethically handcrafted" mean?

Our products are handmade with the strictest ethical standards possible. Wild Rose is our response to an economy where the ecological, political and social costs of manufacturing are veiled. We minimize the social, environmental and ethical footprint of our products by choosing sources that are local, non-GMO, sustainably harvested, organic or fair trade. We grow many of the fresh botanicals needed for our recipes in (uncertified) organic permaculture gardens just outside our workshop.
To help offset the inevitable impact of shipping and manufacturing, we make yearly donations to environmental protection and social justice groups. In this way, we hope to set a precedent through steadfast ethics and transparent business practices.

Wholesale availability

Interested in selling our products in your shop? We'd love to hear from you! Please use the "Ask a question" link at the top of this page or drop us a line at info[at]wildroseherbs.com for an application.

Are your products organic?

We use organic ingredients whenever possible, but no, our finished products are not certified organic. Some ingredients are harvested from the wild or our own (uncertified organic) permaculture gardens. Others ingredients are not available through a trustworthy organic source so we opt for all natural, minimally processed and ethically wildcrafted options. However, we're always looking for new and better organic suppliers. All organic ingredients are listed with an asterisk (*).

Where can I find scent descriptions?

Each product listing has a full scent description under "item details." Gift sets or items with multiple scent options contain scent profiles for each option. We understand that smellovision is not a thing and choosing a scent can be difficult. We offer sampler sets for many of our products and encourage shoppers to buy small to start (our products last a long time anyway!). If you have any questions, or if you need help choosing a product for yourself or a loved one, we're here to help! Just click the "ask a question" button at the top of this page.
