The Who & Why

I love supporting other people doing wonderful work. Former jobs of mine include creating community gardens and managing farmers' and artisans' markets. I’m not the creator, I’m the one who gets excited about what others create and wants to help share it! So, it’s not about me. ⁣

However, as a consumer who wants to know the story behind a product and WHY brand is doing what they do… It is important for you to know who I am and what my intentions are.

I’m Stephanie, a North Carolina native who’s been living in Colombia for almost four years. Long story short, I decided to travel for 6+ months to learn Spanish, landed in Medellín, Colombia and by month 7 I fell in love on the metro. Yup. I’m also a Waldorf English teacher. ⁣

I’ve always been fascinated by artisan crafts because of their bright colors and unique designs. Learning about the symbolism fills me with joy and a great sense of awe. I started Wild You in the midst of the pandemic because artisans didn’t have any tourists to sell to in person. My hope is to create a steady flow of sales for the artisans I work with, giving them another source of income. I don’t glamorize it or try to make it sound like what I’m doing is a BIG deal. But I want to help, and every time you purchase something it makes it more of a reality.

I’ve met the leaders that I work with from the Wayuu and Inga communities via video calls, phone calls, and lots of Whatsapp messages. I first introduced myself with a handwritten letter that I took a photo of and sent in a text. I asked permission to share their cultures, I did not assume and still don’t assume that what I think is ok, is ok. I want to give them as much respect as possible and I sure as hell hope to get to be able to meet them in person when the time is right!⁣

So, that’s the who/why in a nutshell. Thank you for supporting Wild You Handmade!
