Wilderness Serenity was founded by Stephanie in 2007, embracing a creative focus on earth friendly nomadic designs.

All Wilderness Serenity treasures are created by Stephanie who uses sustainable or upcycled wool and cotton yarns which have inspired nomadic elegance ,simple sophistication and timeless designs rooted in a rustic woodland style. Each treasure is hand, dyed and knit by Stephanie...... Every item is made at my home in the beautiful forests of Virginia.

Hi, I'm Stephanie and I am a native of beautiful Virginia where forests, mountains, rivers and oceans come to life. Growing up I spent my time around the woods and rivers barefoot and ready for an adventure. This led to a creative and resourceful imagination and a passion of all things in nature. My creative outlets really started to bloom with the addition of my 4 children. Through our family adventures, I have found new ways to bring to life my handy work.
Fiber arts warm my heart, and so I spend my knitting time thinking of new creations to bring to life with various mediums such as wool, cotton and fiber blends. One of my favorite things to do is dye wool. It's like finger painting for adults! After receiving my undyed wool from the farm, I give it a bath to prep the wool to be hand painted using natural and low impact dyes. After all of the colors are absorbed into the wool, it is steamed to set the dye. After this, the wool is rinsed and dried naturally in order to retain all its moist lanolin, and it is ready to be reskeined for knitting.

Fair Trade Values

Wilderness Serenity prices are based on material and resource cost plus the time, energy, and skill needed to make each garment. I have put a lot of care into making sure the materials I use are sourced from eco friendly and ethical working environments. While there is always room to improve we strive to live by Fair Trade values even just a small part in our lives can make the difference in others existence. In our global cultures with environmental issues there are so many of us seeking a more sustainable earth friendly, and economical way to provide for our daily living needs. Mass production and exploitation of cheap labor has been exposed for what it is and the lives it negatively impacts. Like a ray of hope there is an ever growing community of small home based businesses that provide high quality sustainable options. These businesses are growing daily. Supporting home grown businesses like Wilderness Serenity helps keep the community thriving, stimulating the local economies and making our beautiful earth greener.

Wilderness Serenity’s goal is to offer others affordable, high quality, handmade treasures with a consciense.

Wilderness Serenity is the fruit of the crunchy adventures of my husband and myself. From making dolls clothes from toilet paper and scotch tape and making whistles from grass clippings as children to designing specialty childrens clothes and hand carved waldorf wooden toys as adults a passion for creativity and nature has been rooted in our souls since we were children. The love for the organically inspired lifestyle has bonded my husband and I since our beginning. Thanks to our roots of childhood creativity our creations have blossomed into the launch of our Etsy store.

Additional policies and FAQs
Because all pieces are hand cut, carved dyed knit or sewn, please expect variations in each piece. These subtle differences should be celebrated as the seal of a hand made piece created especially for you!
NOTE ON COLOR* - Colors will vary depending on your computers color settings and from dye setiing to dye painting. This is the nature of dyeing things by hand.

Silk: Silk is a strong natural fiber, a protein actually, that does not itself shrink. It is the fashion in which the separate fibers are wound together during the weaving process that causes shrinkage. Silks may bunch up, as water will create a twisting energy within the fibers. The maximum shrinkage you can expect is usually 5% to 10%. Steaming your silk or using a iron with a silk setting and damp silk can relax the fabric to regain its unwrinkled and fullest measurements.
