Florida, United States 3 Sales On Etsy since 2012

Announcement   I began my carving career in 1975, but it was after retirement in 2001 that I became a serious carver.

Now, at age 72, I live in Central Florida with my Wife Lynda, and our four dogs (or fur kids): Sir Winston (Briard), Kid Kody (Wire Haired Fox Terrier), Raggs and Layla (Shih-Tzu Pups).

I spend approximately 8 hours each day in my carving shop, working diligently on the next Elephant, Gator, Frog, Wooley Mammoth or ? Each piece is unique unto itself, and yet distinctly reflects my personal style.

A William Andrew Haight carving normally entails many months of preperation and work. Starting with the vision of the piece, selection of the wood, sketch of the animal or ? to be carved, rough staging and finally completion.

Consequently each piece is a treasure unto itself; a columnation of a vision, and a true masterpiece for the serious collector.

Each carving borders in the realm of the sublime, and is destined to become an heirloom piece, to be cherished by future generations.

I use my carvings as a way of keeping my mind active, considering no piece, large or small unimportant. My hope is that each reflects my talents, and the fact that I have spent, and still spend many moments perfecting my gifts.

Thanks for viewing my Profile Page, I sincerely hope that you take the time to view the carvings in my Shop.

About

I'd rather be carving.....

How did you start your shop? How does it all work? I've been carving for over 40 years. Full time since 2001. I sometimes find large blocks of local wood on the side of the road. But the real nice stuff, I have to buy and have shipped in from out of state and or other countries. It takes about a month to complete one of the large pieces but, as soon as I finish one, I start another. I sometimes put in 8 hour days on my carvings as, it is like fever to get it done. I use power tools and anything to make the carving easier but, the detail work has to be done with hand tools such as, mallet and chisels. I normally finish my pieces smooth and so they require a great deal of hand sanding. I usually finish my pieces with just a coat of neutral/natural stain but, now and then, I will use a spar varnish for a protective and high gloss shine. Most items are shipped free and so feel free to browse and buy all you want...LOL. Have a great day.
Thanks for looking in. Bill Haight

In this photo, I'm working on a pair of elephant tusks for one of my large elephants. These dayz I'm using gabon ebony for the tusks and toenails.
