How it all started...
Rewind to 2003. I was an art student focused on learning the ins and outs of metalsmithing. I'd just modled, cast, and riveted together the pieces of an articulated finger cover and I needed a way to wear it. Enter chainmail. What better way to attach a silver finger covering than with a chainmail glove?
One problem: I didn't know how to make chainmail. Neither did my teacher.
So, I started looking things up. I found a couple step by step tutorials for European 4-in-1, and I was on my way.
Now, skip ahead to 2014. I've been making chainmail ever since that first project, only the weaves have gotten more diverse, the patterns more complex. Each new project leads to another, and I've got a growing pile of totally awesome chainmail collecting dust in my studio. Family and friends order custom pieces, or see something on one of my shelves and ask if they can buy it. Then someone asks if I can put a up display in the local library about what chainmail is and how it's made. Then more people start asking, "Do you sell it? Why not?" And I think to myself, "Yeah, why not?"
I've been doing projects, mostly freelance graphic work, under the name Wimsi design for a few years, so I expand the name to include jewelry design and production, register for a sales license, and open the doors to my new etsy shop in October of 2015.
