Welcome to the Bumblehil Shop, where you'll find art inspired by myth, folklore, fairy tales, and magical stories both old and new....

The Bumblehill Series features paintings & drawings for children (and the young at heart!) full of bunny girls, bird boys, hedgerow fairies, and assorted other critters, often watched over by "Mother Nature" figures with clouds, twigs, and birds’ nests in their hair. I believe that a personal relationship with the natural world is important for all young people, no matter where they live: city, suburbia, or countryside. These little critters of mine are intended as guides to lead children into the magical world of nature, opening their eyes and ears to the stories in the land around them.

The Myth Series features mythic art intended for a more mature audience, rooted in the landscapes that I know and love the best: the Sonoran desert of southern Arizona, and the rolling green hills of Devon, England.

If you'd like to know more about me and the ideas behind my work, please visit my website and daily blog: www.windling.com.

There's also a Bumblehill tumblr: terriwindling.tumblr.com.

Love the artwork, but not a good shopping experience. The size is listed as 11x17 which is the paper size. The art is actually much smaller at 8.75x12.25. I ordered on Dec 19 and didnt get the piece until Jan 29. Had to contact the seller to make sure it wasnt lost. When the piece did arrive it was creased.

Beautiful print, thank-you! But might consider mailing in tubes because it arrived with 2 corners bumped from sliding loose in between the cardboard pieces.

About

Finding magic in the everyday world

...
Like many children, I was raised on myths, fairy tales, and fantasy: stories of wolves lurking in the woods, boys who pull swords out of stones, girls who travel on the backs of bears or swans or the fierce North Wind. I never out-grew these "children's" stories; rather, I seemed to grow into them, discovering their hidden depths as I grew older -- for just as nightly dreams reflect the realities of our waking life, the symbols to be found in folklore and myth (the collective dreams of entire cultures) provide useful metaphors for the journeys, struggles and transformations we experience throughout our lives.

The person that I am and the art that I make was formed by these magical, ancient tales...and also by the landscapes that I know and love the best: Dartmoor in Devon, England (where I live) and the Arizona desert (where I used to live). Through them I have come to understand how the land itself shapes mythic imagery -- and how, as mythic artists, we can let the land speak through us with its own voice.

Why are so many of us enspelled by myths and folk stories in this modern age? Why do we continue to tell the same old tales, over and over again? I think it's because these stories are not just fantasy. They're about real life. We've all encountered wicked wolves, found fairy godmothers, and faced trial by fire. We've all set off into unknown woods at one point in life or another. We've all had to learn to tell friend from foe and to be kind to crones by the side of the road. . . .

Our lives are our mythic journeys, and our happy endings are still to be won.

Thank you for visiting my Etsy shop. If you'd like further information about any of the items listed here, just ask.

For more information about me, my art, or the various books I've published, please visit my website: www.terriwindling.com.

I don't sell any of my books here on Etsy, but they can easily be ordered through your local bookshop or an online bookseller. People often ask me which ones to start with. I'd recommend "The Wood Wife" for adult readers, "Welcome to Bordertown" (Kushner & Black, editors) for teenage readers, "The Winter Child" for children age 7 and up, and "A Midsummer Night's Faery Tale" for younger children.
