Announcement    Windy Ridge pots are inspired by the rich global history of folk pottery and grounded in the rolling hills of Southwestern Wisconsin.

At the heart of Windy Ridge Pottery is our 30-foot long, three-chambered wood-fired climbing kiln. Our kiln and multi-day firings, combined with extensive use of hand-processed local clay and glaze materials, give our pots character, warmth, and depth.

Our work is deeply inspired by the ancient pottery of ancient Korea, China, Japan, and Great Britain, but reflects the ways we interact with food, family, flowers, and friends today.

We are so happy that you have chosen to have handmade pots in your life. We are now shipping for the Holiday Season. Please let us know if you have questions.

About

Handmade, Wood-Fired Pottery

Hello and Welcome!

Windy Ridge wood-fired pots are inspired by the rich global tradition of folk pottery, and grounded in the rolling hills of Southwest Wisconsin’s Driftless Region. We collaborate with each other, our local materials, and our wood-fired kiln in pursuit of functional pots with warmth, depth, and character.

Trees felled by winter winds and summer storms fuel our Bizen-style kiln. The igloo-shaped first chamber creates natural ash surfaces during our three-day firings, while the second and third chambers hold pots decorated with slips and glazes composed primarily of regional, hand-processed materials. We raw-glaze our pots keep them lively and spontaneous, and to allow evolution over each firing cycle and passing season.

The energy and life in our pots emerges from our interpretation on traditional shapes, surfaces, and methods of working. The completion of this cycle comes with sending our pots out into the world for everyday use and enjoyment around the kitchen table.

Thanks for choosing Windy Ridge Pottery. All of our work is handmade, wood-fired, and created for everyday enjoyment. Our glazes are lead-free and food safe. Our pots can be placed in the dishwasher, although regular use will shorten the life of your pot. We do not recommend microwaving, baking in a pre-heated oven, or placing pots on the stovetop. Please ask if you have any questions about using our pots.
