About

A long wait

As a young girl, I wanted to be an author and an artist. I did manage to write a book when I was a teenager, but I thought being an artist meant drawing and painting, two things I'm not so good at. It was as an adult I discovered the wonderful world of jewelry!

I started with memory wire and came up with quite a lot of interesting ideas. Then onto stringing but I am the world's worst crimper. All the while, I kept seeing wire jewelry in magazines and finally took the dive. In 2005 I self-taught myself wire wrapping and it's been a wonderful adventure ever since.

I travel and teach classes, write tutorials, and have co-authored two books. I've also written two of my own books. I do loads of shows throughout the year, both selling products so you can make your own jewelry and I also do street fairs and sell my finished jewelry.

I've been adventuring out from my comfort zone of wire and have been using leather and sheet metal in my designs. I've also picked up a torch this year (2013) and am really enjoying what I'm able to do with it in my designs. But I hear wire still calling my name....

So I've done it. I've gone full circle and became an author and an artist. Life is good!

Never being able to sit still for too long and having crocheted everything under the sun, I needed a new hobby to help me relax in the evenings after chasing kids around all day and running my medical transcription business. Jewelry it was!

Welcome! Many of you know me as Jewels By Jules. Unfortunately, that name was taken here on Etsy so I came up with Wire And Metal Jewelry.

I've been making jewelry since 2001 and love it! Nothing better than wire and metal.

TierraCast:
I LOVE TierraCast. I have purchased from them for years and have sold their wonderful beads and charms at many shows. I've even been fortunate enough to do demonstrations in their booth! They have an awesome staff of employees and everything is made here in the U.S., in northern California.

TierraCast beads and jewelry components are FDA certified lead-free. TierraCast is made from the Britannia pewter alloy, and it exceeds both the CPSC standard and the new California law regulating children's jewelry content. Britannia pewter is a culinary grade pewter. The components are electroplated with various metals to create the finished product. While plated jewelry components will wear or rub off, electroplated finishes are much thicker and do not rub or wear off.

TierraCast beads and jewelry components with the antique silver finish are electroplated with pure silver. These finishes look exactly like sterling silver. Because they are electroplated with fine silver, the components can tarnish just like sterling silver. They can be cleaned with a jewelry polishing cloth or with a gentle detergent. I like to use Dawn dish soap.

Likewise, TierraCast beads and jewelry components with the antique copper finish are plated with genuine copper, topped with a tarnish stopping metals. This finish will not tarnish or turn your skin green.

Thanks for reading through the mumbo-jumbo!
