Everything I make is inspired by history!

Every once in a while in life you have an "Ah ha!" moment - an epiphany, a moment of realization when everything become crystal clear. I've had two. The first was when I was five years old and involves a vague memory of learning about time and space and history, and with that came the sudden realization that I would've fit well in another time period. The second came on my first vacation to the east coast. I stood on the steps of the Antheneum on Nantucket Island, listening to the sounds of car tires rumbling over the cobblestone streets, as the chill autumn breeze whipped my scarf about me and scattered leaves to the crystal blue sky. The second epiphany - I belonged here, in New England.

So what does one DO with such epiphanies? Childhood dreams of time travel have never come to fruition. However, ten years after that second realization, our family did the next best thing. We moved from fast-paced, trend-setting Orange County, California to a small town in New England, whose founding pre-dates the Declaration of Independence, and where history graces every landscape.

Settling into the slower pace of country life has given us breathing space to dream fresh dreams. From my tiny sewing room, with seasonally changing views of the woods, I opened my Etsy shop, creating handwrought goods with historic inspiration. My particular passion, fueled by years of homeschooling, is bringing history to life for children. Thus, I create historical costumes, and my heartfelt desire is that these costumes will ignite an abiding love of history in your child.

My creative process always starts with my first love: history. Moving beyond this, I choose my favorite materials: natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool, silk), luxurious-feeling fabrics, and antique and vintage finds gathered from the backroads antique stores of New England. And it all comes together with historical research and tiny stitches.

Beyond the scissors and thread, here's a bit about me personally. I'm a Christian. I've been married to my best friend for 25 years. We have three kids, and really cute grandkids. I've spent 17+ years homeschooling. I love dark chocolate, vintage dancing, good literature, period movies, and gardening. We keep lazy golden retrievers and a rubber chicken as pets.
