About

The Magical Life of a Hand Dyer

My love of fiber began with my introduction to the wonderful art of wet felting, and quickly expanded to experimenting with all other fiber art forms I could imagine. Yearning for earthy, saturated color, I soon began to dye my own fibers for use in my work, which led to the creation of my hand dyed business.

Everything about the dyeing process delights me! From witnessing the transformation of the fiber, as primary colors combine and emerge as deep, rich hues, to the physical act of dyeing, applying color to fiber, participating in a tradition that has been passed down through the ages to the process of curing the dyes through steaming, where the dyes mix and blend in often beautiful and unexpected ways. Truly magical.

Wonderland Dyeworks developed from my deep-rooted connection and commitment to continuing traditional fiber art forms such as spinning, knitting and felting, and the desire to offer the fiber community unique and rich color palettes. My small fiber arts business specializes in high quality, hand dyed roving, yarn, silk noil, wool felt and other fiber goodies. Created in my Oakland, California studio, each of my small batch, hand-dyed fibers are one-of-a-kind original works of art.  My custom mixed dye palettes tend toward the earthy, saturated variety to tempt and inspire the creative impulses of fabulous fiber communities worldwide.

Welcome to my shop! I am a hand dyer of natural fibers who enjoys every moment of the dyeing ritual. My dye process typically consists of dyeing yarn in 2 skein batches, and roving is dyed in approximately 4 ounce bundles.

All of my fibers are dyed by hand with professional acid dyes, a process by which the dyes permanently bond with the fiber. Please note that colors vary depending on your computer and color settings. Since I mix my own unique colors from basic primary colors and due to the nature of the hand dyeing process, colors may also vary slightly from dye bath to dye bath.

Additional policies and FAQs
To care for your yarn, gently wash in cool water and lay flat to dry--unless, of course, felting is the desired result, then plenty of hot water and agitation is the way to go!

I love hearing from you, so please send any feedback, thoughts, or questions you may have. You can contact me by clicking the “contact WonderlandDyeworks” link.

I truly hope you enjoy creating!
