How do I make my product?

I hand cut all of my own pieces with a scroll saw. I don't use metal fasteners, just a lot of time with glue and clamps. I cut dadoes into all of my frames, making them stronger while creating clean edges.
I typically use poplar, aspen, or oak for the main cut out piece. I then back this with a veneer. I choose the veneer based on contrast, and also on the suggested image. Lastly, I use commonly found molding at lumber stores and with a router, I dado into the side to frame the piece. After 24 hours of drying, I begin the varnish process. I prefer a gloss finish, and rarely use a stain. I like the look of the natural wood grain.
Because of the way I frame my pieces, a hanger is not necessary. A nail or screw in the wall will easily hold up my wall art by placing it on the lip of the frame protruding from the back.

After years of working around the country in theatres and education, I am right where I always wanted to be: creating art from hardwoods and veneers. Each piece is unique. I sketch my own ideas and use a scroll saw to individually cut each one.
