Woodistry – Artistry in Wood
That was the concept behind Woodistry. The name was actually created by a neighbor named Mike who took his daily walks on our street back in the early 1990s. Mike would stop by my open shop (garage) on his walks telling me he loved my work. At that time I was still a software engineer, but I had been fortunate enough to study woodworking under a true master woodworker named Ian Kirby for almost four years. One day Mike stopped by the shop and said to me, “I have a name for your business – Woodistry. It means Artistry in Wood. Use it.”. Mike was a former advertising exec who had been involved in producing a number of famous TV ads in the 70s. So, how could I turn down advice like that? We started the business officially in 2002.
When we started our business we were going to just focus on fine furniture, but talking to other woodworking friends we decided to give cabinet making a try. After doing a number of kitchens, bathrooms, offices and entertainment centers we decided to get back to our furniture and craft roots. It is nice working on things that are easy to carry, don’t require installation and can be easily shipped.
I really like to do my own thing when it comes to woodworking. I am not fond of re-creating someone else’s work unless I have a client who requests it. All of the items that we have listed are our own original designs. We would love to create something special just for you.

Katsuyo (Kat) provides a lot of the ideas for our Asian inspired designs such as our shoe benches (getabako). Kat grew up in Japan, but moved to the U.S. in her early 20s. She has also studied art and loves organic gardening.

Payment should be made immediately when purchasing, by clicking on the ‘Pay Now’ button. If payment is not received within 48 hours I will contact the buyer, and if no response is received within an additional 48 hours I will need to cancel the sale and re-list the item.
For furniture items the etsy shipping rate listed may be higher than the actual costs since etsy is not setup to adjust shipping based on where a package is going. In this case we will gladly refund the difference after we get the final bill from the chosen shipper. So, if we list a shipping fee of $100 and it only costs $40 you are going to get $60 back. If you happen to be in the San Diego area and wish to pick up anything we sell there is of course no shipping charge. In that case please convo us for the details since we give an additional discount for pick-ups.
=== Domestic (USA) Shipping for Small Items ===
We typically ship those items within 1 or 2 business days after an order is received unless it is a custom order.
We ship our smaller items via the USPS Priority Mail which comes with a tracking number.
Priority Mail comes in two different charges - Flat Rate and Non-Flat Rate. For most of our items we charge what USPS would charge for Flat Rate at post offices. The shipping distance and weight make Non-Flat Rate more economical in some cases. We will then use Non-Flat Rate and refund the difference if it is at least $3. For Non-Flat Rate shipping, we might use a gently used box (participating in a green movement) where Flat Rate shipments come in a USPS provided box.
=== Saving in Shipping Cost for Multiple Items ===
One way to purchase multiple items is to go ahead to order and pay the shipping fee for each item. We will refund any shipping overpayment fee once we ship them out.
The another way is to let us determine the shipping fee before making the purchase. Please contact us with items in your mind and ZIP, we will let you know the shipping fee. We can set up a reserved item for you.
=== International Shipping for Small Items ===
We will ship your item(s) within one to four days unless stated otherwise. We ship them via United State Postal Service (USPS) Priority Mail to avoid any losses during the transit between our place to the last USPS facility the package goes through. The package can be tracked only to that USPS facility.
As we are in business, we need to claim the shipment as merchandise not a gift. Customers are responsible for custom fees and any other fees. Once the package leaves US, any issues must be handled between the buyer and the local post office. In any event if the customer does not claim or receive the shipment, unfortunately we are unable to make a refund.
=== Furniture ===
We typically ship furniture via UPS or FedEx. Upon confirmation of your payment we will have your furniture package shipped within 4 to 5 business days. Typically your furniture package should arrive within 6 to 10 business days. In case the merchandise shows any signs of damages during the delivery, please point them out to the delivery person if it's possible.
Refunds and Exchanges
The buyer returns the merchandise at the buyer's expense. If the merchandise is sell-able condition, we will issue refund for the full amount immediately.
After we have been in contact the item will have to be returned to us in the original box and packaging materials at the buyer’s expense. The merchandise must be in resell-able condition when we receive it. We will issue a refund for the price of the furniture. The buyer is responsible for the shipping fees for both ways.
Furniture Damaged during Transit to the Buyer:
Please contact us immediately with images of the damages, we will contact the shipping carrier to resolve the issue. Regardless of the outcome with the carrier you will be refunded for the full amount that include the shipping fee.
