My Love for all Fiber Animals

I purchased my first Alpaca in 2002. After our first shearing my husband and I took a shearing course so we could shear our own animals. I then sent the fiber off to a mill for processing. After I got the fiber back I thought I would love to learn how to process my own fiber from start to finish. Using Youtube, books and a few local classes I taught myself how to process, spin and hand dye my own fiber. It was a long process and there was some ruined fiber over the years but I continued to learn and improve which I still do today.

After several years of raising Alpacas I purchased a breeding pair of Tunis sheep. After a couple of years I decided to change my farm direction to sheep. I so missed the Alpaca fiber but I was lucky enough to have several local farms who have amazing animals and would let me purchase they fiber.

I have a natural dye garden that includes Madder and Woad that gives me some amazing reds and blues. I have dyed using a variety of other natural material to include Onion Skins, Zinnias, black walnuts and different types of fruits such as blackberries.

Spreading the joys of processing fiber by hand is very important to me. I do spinning demonstrations and teach a variety of classes to include Drop Spindle Spinning, Yarn Dyeing and felting.

I am a self taught spinner and knitter. I'm always up for a challenge when it comes to fiber arts. I enjoy all types of fiber arts from spinning yarn, knitting, wet felting and needle felting along with dyeing especially with natural dyes.

Welcome to Woodland Trail Farm. I have a passion for fiber that goes back many many years.

The fiber used in my products is either directly from my farm or purchased from other local Virginia farms and hand processed by me with no harsh chemicals in a smoke free environment. All my animals are free range and naturally fed and I ensure the farms where I purchase my fiber from does the same. I strongly believe that a happy and naturally fed animal produces the most amazing fiber.

I do believe in promoting ETSY sellers and the local fiber community so I do, on occasion, purchase yarn or roving from other ETSY sellers and local Virginia farms.
