Welcome to Woodlot Artisans LLC Art Gallery And Studio

All of our carvings are hand made by myself or my wife Heather, or one of our amazing artisans who have come on board with us. Each is made one at a time, from the finest woods and finishes Alabama has to offer. Our Carvings are timeless and without hassle. We normally use reclaimed wood from local lumber yards. Each carving wears in beautifully, creating an aged and classic feel. They are inspired from our travels and reflect a rustic and elegant sensibility. Some are smooth and others more rustic. Woodlot Artisans designs are meant to be whimsical and function through time, not just for one Season. Our wood is sourced from the farthest regions of the world to the lumber yards of Alabama. We love finding rare woods and turning them into beautiful carvings. Our Latest inspiration has come from the fishing trips i would go on with my Father as a child and from the culture, and wildlife surrounding us here is Alabama. We have sourced materials straight from this area and am incorporating them into one of a kind whimsical artwork. Woodlot Artisans pays close attention to craftsmanship and design. Not overdoing anything with too much kitch or gimmick. We love things that are rustic, whimsical, and beautiful and that is our goal.

Thanks to the amazing ETSY marketplace our products are now national and the inspiration continues to flourish as a result.

Like you, I’m battling to become better and trying to cause a ripple in my corner of the universe. I know about the challenges that we face to become better leaders, workers, & people. I create sculpture so that we may find beauty in the struggle.

    Owner, Sculptress

When I sculpt, I look at Gods work and try to mimic it through my personal interpretation. How can I portray such beauty? How can I interpret such power? My relationship with Jesus Christ is profoundly found in how I portray his creation in wood.

Chainsaw Carving Care Instructions

Most of the carvings purchased from Woodlot Artisans are coated in a Spar Urethane. Feel free to call if you would like recommendations on finish.

No finishing is needed upon purchase, however if your carving is going to a dryer climate a drying period is necessary as we live in a very humid environment. In order to slowly acclimate your sculpture, set it in a covered non-climate controlled place with a sheet or something breathable over it. The shock of the climate change may cause cracking. Proper precautions may prevent this.

Carvings will crack as they dry and shrink- guaranteed- typically this enhances the whole log carving charm. If you don't like the cracked look of a chainsaw carved log, then we suggest a nice plastic sculpture from China. Cracks may be easily recolored with a torch, paints or stains.

If carving is to be displayed indoors: no special care instructions are required. Place carving on furniture tacks (or carpenter pencils) to allow for an air gap. If you would like your carving to be shinier, apply one coat of brush-on Spar Urethane. Let dry 24 hours in indirect sun light.

If carving is to be displayed on the porch or deck: place 2 carpenter pencils under carving to provide an air gap. Once a year, on a hot summer day, apply a coat of brush-on Spar Urethane. Let dry 24 hours in indirect sun light.

If carving is going to be displayed in the yard: put down about 2 inches of gravel under the carving for drainage. Once a year, on a hot summer day, apply a coat of brush-on Spar Urethane. Let dry 24 hours in indirect sun light.

If you have purchased a carving that is in "raw" form, meaning no finish has been applied, here are your instructions: After about a few days you should start to see very small hairline size checking, this is when you apply the first coat of brush-on Spar Urethane. The first coat should be applied rather thick. Let it dry as instructed. Then apply a second, and if desired, a third coat. Thereafter follow the instructions above for a carving that would have been already treated.

Disclaimer: Apply the polyurethane in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors. Polyurethane may stain clothing and/or skin and is highly flammable.
